| MINI LOVER | I have a Sept 2002 cooper S. I'd like to change the whole brake kit, front for sure and maybe back. I found lots of brake kits but I'd like one that would fit in my 17" wheels and that would need small spacers if necessary. I'd also like to know if there is a Braking kit from one of the main companies that is considered official MINI product, cause I got the mini care paket that will not be valid anymore if all accessories on my mini are not official. Thx ALEX Have looked at Tarox Brembo JCW Alpina ... Anyone? Last edited by lex76 : Feb 9th, 2004 at 11:29 AM. |

Offline | JCW will release their brake kit this month . Thats more or less the only BMW approved option you've got.... However, depending on you dealer, other options might be OK. Brembo GT/GT JR would be a nice alternative. |

Offline | lex76, What choices of brake kits do you have in Italy? What wheels are you using? If you want a brake kit that fits inside the stock 17" S-spokes without spacers, then you're left with waiting for the JCW kit (no info yet), or the more affordable UUC (releasing soon). It's not really worthwhile to order brakes from overseas because shipping will cost you a lot, unless you can find a very good deal. In general, you don't really need to upgrade the rears, because the fronts do most of the braking work, unless you have a superstiff front suspension setting If you insist, upgrading the rear brake pads will probably do the job.Paul, I'm sure the Tar-Ox 10-pot is good. I just find it annoying that the ABS kicks in so early (as if I'm braking on wet surface), maybe R-tyres would help Never tried this combo. Might be a good idea to tweak the ABS setting, if possible. I suspect the brake bias for this one might be too much on the fronts!? Have you ever compared the braking distance using this kit against others using other brake kits, or stock setup, side by side, everything else being equal?Road: 2002 MCS with KW V2 and other bolt-ons Track: Lotus Elise race car |

Offline | Sorry I don't have side by side comparision of breaking distance, neither I don't have ABS early kick in problem. I use EBC break oil, would it be the factor of early kick in? Since I used TarOx, many people follow this modification. Some of them used Stoptech, some used AP, but now they all agree the best break system is TarOx. And recommend it to new MCS owner wholeheartly. I just upgrade my Tar-Ox 10 pot system to the Tarox 10 pot ceramic coating system, it's awesome. |

Offline | Forgot to mention, I have also Pro-Mini bigger (323mm) disk on my rear (made by Tar-Ox). http://www.promini.com/products/tarox.shtml , I don't know this help the balance/distribution of breaking force or not, I will write an email to ask. |

Offline | Thanks for the details, Paul ![]() May I ask what tyres you're running on? What's the difference between the Tar-Ox 10 pot system and the Tarox 10 pot ceramic coating system? Promini appears to be selling one version only ![]() Road: 2002 MCS with KW V2 and other bolt-ons Track: Lotus Elise race car |

Offline | I run P Zero Nero on mine, and one of my friend use Continental CSC2, we both are happy with this setting. The ceramic rotor provide higher temp tolerance. I don't remember precisely, but at least 150 degree C higher. And the rotor takes heat away quicker. One drawback of Tarox is that you will hear noise at low speed, I believe that's due to the pad. Also durability is better. The weight is about the same, so it doesn't help much on unsprung weight. I know M7 has new ceramic break, honestly, I don't consider that because of the look, doesn't fit my wheel. (BBS RV-F) I just got my ceramic rotor few days ago, not from Pro-Mini, the dear told me it's from Tarox directly. I will post my feedback of this new rotor, still need time to feel it ![]() |

Offline | It could be the tyres, or the extent of warm up that makes the difference then Hard to say....Road: 2002 MCS with KW V2 and other bolt-ons Track: Lotus Elise race car |

| MINI2 Master | To be honest I didn't ask that. I assumed they only upgraded the front brakes with bigger discs and calipers. However, it could be all 4. The guy at JCW said "the brake kit, for a ballpark figure, will be around £800" Thats £200 pop a corner, does that seem realistic? Lotus Elise SC - Collecting 1st April |

| Gutter Princess | From what I have gathered in mags etc it would seem incredibly reasonable. AP and Brembo etc do a full set for £1600 - £800 ish a pair. I'm guessing that £800 is for 2 - however if I'm wrong I'll be a very happy girl! do you know who you spoke to at JCW and if they're going to put the info up on their website? thanks! ![]() |

| MINI2 Master | The info will be going on their new website along with the seats and other options they are bringing out. I don't know who I spoke to at JCW but he was extremely helpful. If I were you I'd give them a call as well! ![]() Lotus Elise SC - Collecting 1st April |
