Offline | Pipercross filters Hello all you mini owners, There has been alot of talk about the Mini induction kit, We developed this kit some months ago, we have had this kit tested on several rolling roads around the country and recived good mid range gains of around 4-6 bhp, Because it is a basic induction kit it will suffer from hot air from the engine bay....The same as every other filter manufacture!! We then produced the VIPER kit this is a revearse flow filter inside a carbon fiber surround and a 75mm cold feed that ataches to the top of the kit and can be directed to the front grill (at presant you have a number of resenator boxes there, VERY RESTRICTIVE.) This only alows cold air in to the filter, we have had a number of good results from this kit from both the sates and the u.k. Please visit WWW.pipercross.com and click on the viper banner for more info. Also do you know who supplys John Cooper garages?? the works team?? I hope this has been some use to you all, and please call if you want any further information... James |

Offline | The induction kit works well, but as i said it can suffer from hot air, with the viper kit we have a small problem, Yo fit the cold air feed you need to remove the resonater boxes, we went to our local BMW dealer for advice and was told they do not come out without removing permenetly soif you do fit the viper kit you will not be able to put it back to standard. We have however supplyed a mini race team in the states who have seen gains of around 8-9bhp and a n increase of 10lbft of tourque. I belive you will be happy with the standard induction kit for both noise and power. James |

![]() M2 Bapmaster | Thanks for the info. I'm glad I didn't go for the viper kit now as I want to be able to refit the standard air filter when the car needs a service so no-one is any the wiser. And as you say this wouldn't be possible with the viper kit. All i've got to do now is get the damn thing Mark P.s Congrats on making what will hopefully be a brilliant product ![]() |

Offline | You say that all aftermarket induction kits will suffer from hot air, fair enough, but does the standard airbox draw cold air or hot air? Also what is the actual power output you recorded on the dyno, before/after putting the induction kit on? My estimates would guess at 123bhp before 127/128bhp after? Cooper, Silver with Black Roof. Offline | MadMiniManiac I may be corrected on this - but you are a bit hopefull of the horsepower on dyno figures. I think the cooper is listed as 115bhp, although there is some argument to say that they are more than that - anyway - with the std 115, this is measured at the crank - not the wheels - so on a dyno the figure (after losses in gearbox, transmission etc) you would expect around 90 - 95bhp. This will vary a lot depending on the following: 1)the dyno used (you should always use the same dyno and the figures should be used for before and after comparisons only) 2)The atmospheric conditions on the day 3) the operator 4) finally the actual method used to give a BHP figure (DIN, EEC etc...) as they are all different methods of calculation. Also - don't forget that without a good session on a rolling road to setup the induction kit - the car will run like a pile of cr@p!! as the fuel mixture will be far too lean to run properly. It is a fallacy that modern fuel injection systems can take modifications into account and make ammends. Hope this helps as the price quoted at £85 (which I think is very reasonable) isn;t the end of the story as you will need to spend at least a few hundred more on a dyno session. Offline | Unfortunatly i would have to disagree on the matter of re-tuneing...Have you suffered these problems yourselve?? We have very few problems with this ,the engine manegment can be resetby disconecting the battery for 5 min The co2 is not adjustable on all cars with cats. Aks a few of the owners on here that have fitted such a kit for there reviews. But if you are speaking from experience please drop us a line to see if we can help at all. James |

Offline | The dyno test stating the power output to be 123bhp for a well run-in standard cooper was superchips. They are well renowned for their accuracy when it comes to the conversion between power at the wheels/ power at the flywheel. But who knows? Just don't be alarmed when tuning companies quote an 8bhp increase in power (to 123 bhp) and when you add on their component you notice no difference! I'm sure pipercross will have calculated their power increase as (dyno test after)-(dyno test before) and not (dyno test after)-(BMW qouted power output). Ally..................... Offline | That is correct, we fist rolling rd with standard airbox and then with the uprated filter, all of out tests are done same day (for tempreture) and with the bonnet down!! this is for on road conditions. We also use superchips rolling rd aswell because as you said they have very skilled staff and an accurate rolling rd James |

Offline | So, just to be nosy, what was the final output? Because the car that superchips might have tested could have been more powerfull for some reason. Cooper, Silver with Black Roof.
