Official MINI performance upgrades.

Spoke to the people at MINI and asked if they would offer any performance upgrades of their own for the MINI via dealerships.

The answer I am afraid is a no.

They will be leaving upgrades to the likes of John Cooper Works etc, and concentrating on getting the cars right from the start, and letting the tuning boys have fun adding performance extra's for those enthusiasts who want them.

Hmmmmm

When i asked if there was an authorized chipper so that you dont void your waranty, my dealer said that they is but it will be done by BMW, and it will be an option that you have to ask for.
Not sure how true this is, basil might know something about this being in OZ.
Im in WA if your wondering

My dealer insinuated that BMW would be able to do this upgrade with software working with Dinan(sp?). It would still be with the warranty. Think he said that this could boost the torque and the horsepower. HP would go to about 124 on the Cooper.

Didn't ask much more. This was during my test drive and I was having too much fun for such serious discussion.

Most fun on 4 wheels.

#9 Cooper at Baron KC. June 2002 build.

It most likely will be through Dinan at your local dealerships. I've heard rummors of Dinan trying to work out a deal with JCGs to import the Works kits and sell them for them as this would most likely not void the warrenty in the states....when i called up dinan and asked them about it they got real quite and then quickly asked "WHERE DID YOU HEAR THAT??" He then would not give me any information and said nothing is final and they are still deciding what they are going to do.

Cheers

DINAN, and John Cooper etc. parts may be available through the dealers, or fitted by the dealers, but BMW/MINI wont make any performance upgrades.

Amigos the dealers dont know squat!!! they just tell you what you want to hear? I have heard from Dinan being the one and also JCW to be the lattest. Dinan will not divulge info 'cause they WILL jack the prices up!!! Another contender is MINIMANIA but they burned the bridges by not letting BMW know that they were displaying their modified version in Laguna Seca Well, thats the story amigos have fun with your minis Ill get mines soon!!

They will not divuldge info, either because A) I found out something they hoped to keep quiet, or B) They themselves don't know exactly what they will all do yet and don't want to start rummors that not might end up to be fact. From what I have learned is that Dinan usually releases stuff for a new model about 4-8 months after it is released. This could be another reason they don't want to say anything yet as there is still some signifigant time till that happens.

I do not agree with the comment about the dealers. My dealer, Patrick MINI seems to be very knowledgeable and very enthusiastic. They are not charging extra, not forcing options, etc. I call up and ask them something they try to answer, if they don't know, they say, and then usually get a response a bit latter once they were able to get the information. Not saying all dealers are the best, but my dealer is great, and if things continue they way they are going, I would defintely go the extra 300 miles to them to get another car from one of their many dealerships, even if i can get the same car around the corner from my place. They are doing a very good job and obtaining a customer for life. I think alot of dealers are missing this and want immediate revenue. Patrick is smart, they know to make money, they need to provide great service, keep me happy, and i'll return to them for more cars, which in the long run would make them alot more then a few thousand markup or making me get GPS.

My two cents.

Cheers

Lightbulb Chip tuning at US dealerships

MINI Madness will be offering Superchips tuning through MINI of Sterling shortly (571-434-1944). You will be able to purchase this directly through the dealer. We are offering many performance products through this dealership and they have a VERY open mind in regards to tuning. If you haven't bought your MINI yet head on over. You'll be suprised how open minded they are to tuning your MINI. Just about anything goes!

see attachment for Superchips powergains

Sorry mate, I don't into this area of the forum much..

I doubt if any EM chip upgrades would be done through the BMW dealerships here, at least not for a while. I know John Cooper Works kits will become available and fitted through your Local BMW dealerships. I daresy full turn-key works cars will become available as well after the Cooper S starts driving out of dealerships doors.

The warranty in Oz is only 24 months, so not too long to wait for an upgrade.

cheers

131 bhp from a super chip

1 bhp less then the jcw conversion

the jcw has a modded ems and has a re worked cylinder head, intake and exhaust and that kicks out 132 bhp at 6000rpm

now if super chips can remap the ems to produce 16 bhp more then standard when jcw had to do all the engine
and exhaust mods remap the ems to get 17 bhp

something doesn't add up

I haven't looked into these two very much, but i can tell you there is a heck of alot more then just BHP to look at. For instance torque, realiablity, powerband, etc. To fairly compare then you have to look at the whole picture, until then it is apples an oranges.

Kelleners has the same for the One. New electronics, modified head, new cams, new airfilter and then you’re off and cruising with 130 bhp. 0-100km/h in 8,5 secs and top speed is 205 km/h. All that for a mere 1990 € / 1752 US / 1216 GB and yes, that does include fitting.
BTW, Kelleners is the company of well known racing driver Ralf Kelleners.

NEED MONEY!!!!!
