Offline | Cooper S re-maping bargain !! I have a Cooper S and want a bit more power. Its a great car but needs a bit more. I've looked at the Works kit but feel for the power increase they are asking silly money (just to protect your warranty). I appreciate the work and parts involved but it does seem over prced. The BBR conversions put the Works to shame in terms of performance and cost. However...... I recently discovered a company offering a remap for approx £300 (see link below) has anybody driven one of these converted cars or own one. What are they like Can they do what they say they can Are they going to put the engine under too much stress with this type of conversion. Basically what i want to know - Is it worth it, it seems to good to be true. (196 bhp for £300 - just a tenth of the works kit). Also they can put your original map back into the car for servicing and then reinstall the modified map again. http://speed-buster.moonfruit.com/minituning |

Offline | Umm.. I have and would recommend the AMD stage 1 on my MCS. That consists of a 15% pulley and the oneclick unit which enables you to swap between standard and modified maps. The result is a much smoother car that produces 198bhp! Does this conversion include a pulley? If it does not i would doubt they would get 40ish bhp increase from just an ECU map... |

Offline | Interesting, they seem to think they can get the increase with just a remap and no pulley. What difference does the pulley make besides a power increase. Did you look at the web link I included, what do you think? Have you had any problems with servicing your modified car? Also how much was the Stage 1 conversion you mentioned from AmD? |

| Trained Monkey | It depends what they've done with the map, but it sounds like a very big leap, more than the previous max I've seen of about 30bhp. (Can't recall there, MINIAC posted it before). It does sound like it would be pushing the limit, but then again with the "usual" (15%) pulley and ECU mod you can get quite a variety of results, from under 200 hp to about 220 hp, and I'm sure a lot of the variety you see has to do with the mapping. |

Offline | I think the only thing is to get a guarantee from them that if it "doesn't do what it says on the tin" when its put on a rolling road then they'd have to give a refund and return the car to original? |

Offline | Amd may be a bit bias towards ther own conversion and say its not possible but i would be interested to see what they tell you. The Speed-buster conversion doesn't use a new pulley its purely down to the remap. I will ask them for a dyno and post it here if i can get one. |

Offline | I agree I think its a case of them having to prove they can do what they say before i part with any cash. Also try the converted car before i pay to see if its a worth while conversion. Your right BHP is not everything, theres more to considor and the only way to find out is to drive the car once the work has been done. Will let everyone know if its any good if i have it done. I would still be interested to hear from anyone who has had a speed buster conversion on their Cooper S. |
