Cooper tuning options (to get the most)

Hi everyone,

This is my first post and im sure it's been covered before but I want to upgrade my standard Cooper to something with a little more pep, whats the best performance mod to get for it, JCW/AmD Technik 136 bhp? or is there one thats more than that. I am looking for a normally aspirated modification and not a supercharged/turbo bolt on!

Any help appreciated.

Chris.

Welcome to the site!

I'm no expert, but I've read extensively in these forums on this issue for my own cooper. There seems to be a consenus that the JCW for the non S cooper is very expensive (over £2000 fitted!) for the subtle increase in performance it yields. A lot of people think the money is better put towards trading for an S if you really want more oomph.

I've also read mixed results on the ECU. Again, for the small bhp increase you get, is it worth potentially invaliding your warranty? Others claim it doesn't do that much for the cooper anyway. Some posts recommend getting performance air filter/exhaust and leaving it at that.

The problem seems to be that BMW pretty much pushed the cooper about as far as it can go without a supercharger or turbo, given gearbox limitations etc. It often seems to dyno better than 115 anyway.

Some have liked the JCW package though. Below is a link to a member's review:

Curious to see what responses you get, as I'm still considering a package similar to yours despite myself!
