Can a re-map add 31bhp to a 'pullied' Cooper S ?

Hi Guys,

If a std Cooper S produces 163bhp and adding a pulley increases it by 20bhp (the generally agreed amount) power would be 183bhp.Reading these threads and from the info given, the West Tuning re-chip appears to further increases the power by another 31.6bhp !
ie Claimed / quoted power is 214.6bhp from just pulley and re-chip.No one seems to have battered an eye lid at these figures. What do you think?

I think the pulley upgrade is 17% or 19% on the West Tuning, so it would give more than 20 bhp. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

I'm not buying it but that's just my opinion. That's why I didn't post in the other thread.
But even if they're getting 50% of that it's still better than any other ECU upgrade.

Not real happy with what I'm dealing with right now so if I could get 3x the HP I'm getting with this unit I'd be all over it. After getting my money back.............

We'll see. If it's that good they won't be able to ship enough units.

BBR produce 218 from a pulley and rechip, that's solid and reliable too. Many people are getting closer/around these figures now it would seem.

I'd forgotten about BBR.
Why doesn't the ECU bit get sold sand alone? Or does it?

Not so far as I know, but the maps these companies produce are no doubt optimised to match the new air/fuel ratios of the cars with the pulley's attached, which would be different than standard. I guess, although it's all electrickery these days, it's much the same principle as using larger carbs/different needles on old engines. You'll only really gain from the new mix if other components are also changed to match.

HI Guys,

Yes from these threads it appears a 17% pulley is used on the 240bhp kit but not sure about the 214bhp kit.Looking at Andy Ross's graph on the Super charger pulley thread this shows an increase of just under 14bhp for a 15% pulley over stock. (Power at wheels?)Therefore if the West Tuning 214bhp conversion were using 15% pulley then the re-chip would be increasing the power by over 37bhp! What do you guys think?

ps With the ChipTuning chip I can see that there would be fair scope to advance the timing over stock to gain power using 98RON as not designed to be used with increased boost pulley. From my own tests using 17% pulley on std ECU timing the car will just about pink occasionaly in unfavourable conditions using 98RON so there is no room to advance the timing further on a car fitted with a small pulley.

Andy's figures are at the wheels, IIRC, and I'd wager that the West kit is quoting 240 at the crank (there's NO way that it's at the wheels.)

Too, the West includes cam, throttle body, etc.

The BBRs of the world are missing a huge market by not offering stuff in the States. Too bad, really.
