changing my wheels and intake~help!

I've got my MCS 2 months ago, and I'm just going to change the wheels and the intake for it. But the problem is I can't make my decision. I don't know if the 18x7.5 inch wheels will slow my mini down compare to the 17x7.5 inch wheels. And which of them will has the better handling? Both of them are super light wheels. Could anybody give me some advices?

The second question is about the intake. Promini parades it's BMP intake could increase 12.9 HP, but i don't quite believe it, because K&N just parades a increasing of 3.9 HP (same for all 4 Typhoon Kits). Does anyone have installed any of them? It's easy to figure it out which one is better by the ads, but the dealers said the K&N intake is better, so I really can't make my mind.

Please give me some help! Thanks~

The 18's will most likely be heavier than the 17's so this will slow u down a tad.

It wil also probably handle a bit better on the 17's but then u loose the looks of the 18's.

As for intakes the Alta, BMP and Typhoon seem to be the popular intakes for the S.

Welcome to the site

The S-pokes are fairly heavy already, if you do decide to change your wheels its quite likely that they will actually weigh less than your current wheels meaning that you will be reducing the unsprung weight at each corner. Don't know if you'd be interested, but I'm currently running a group buy of 18'' Dare X4's - check my signature link

I have a BMP air intake - I would say it gives around a 4-5bhp gain at best, no where near what BMP claim - however it does make a really nice noise, looks good and is nearly have the price of the K&N it also improves throttle response, I would say it was worth it for the price - I think I paid around £150 inc shipping and taxes. IMO most air intakes will only give you a fairly small increase in BHP.

Cheers, LB.

According to what RedUn said, I will have the 17" wheels, but LB's wheels are really good looking. I can't change my mind again anyway, the dealers are going to be angry . And I don't know the weight of LB's wheels, but I think the wheels I'm going to have are very light. Which is just about 14 pounds each. Hope they will make my MCS performs better .

Although I didn't quite believe what Promini parades, LB's message still makes me desponded. There is a huge difference between 4-5 HP and 12.9 HP. But I like nice noise, so I'm still going to buy it. Just don't feel that exciting .

Thank you guys again. Your messages helped me to make my decision. Thanks.

I'm getting the motoforge's speedgear 14, and I changed my mind again. It will be 18" x 7.5", because I don't want to wait. It's not as light as I thought, but still much lighter than the stock 17" wheels. One thing I don't understand. Why the 18 inch's handling will be worse than the 17 inch's?

What's the offset? What tires?

Having too short a sidewall can hurt handling under some conditions. Conditions much like the normal crappy roads we all drive on.
Think about it. Do you ever see 35 Series tires on serious road race cars?

The 18 inchers should be called Motoforge Speedgear 16 as they have 16 spokes

Have fun cleaning these puppies ...

35 series on lightweight 18 = trouble.

I have 14.5 lbs 18" forged wheels and a 35 profile tire. Needless to say that a year and a half after putting them on I have some bent up rims and need to replace them.

Whatever.
