Offline | Thanks for posting pictures everyone Shots of the BMC CDA and Green Cone intakes are the only ones which haven't been posted. I know there is at least one member with the former, but don't know of any with the latter. |

| MINI2 Master | Woops - clicked the wrong option. I have a JCW kit and am very happy with it - EXCEPT - that i couldn't help it getting semi-"squished" by the bonnet-lining which shows signs of wear because of this. To my eyes, the Works and Typhoon ones LOOK the neatest solutions.... |

| Big Grin... | I've been running the 57i for a month or so now. Excellent noise and seems to rev easier at the top end. I have the rubbing issue also (it rubs against the sound proofing so I have 3 inch square patch of heavy duty tape there and it can also rub underneath on the rubber around an engine mount - I've put some foam tape under the metal end of the filter to try and protect it - anyone else have any better ideas?). Note. The picture posted of this is interesting as whoever did it has left the original intake pipe (the flexible part) connected and the open end pointing towards the filter. Any advantage in doing this? Thanks ![]() |

Offline | I just installed the MiniMania cold air intake on my cooper. They forgot to send the instructions, but faxed me a copy when I called them. Installation requires pulling out the stock resonator/snorkel/silencer, which is a bit difficult, but possible. Don't count on being able to put it back in easily, however. You also have to trim the rubber gasket at the inlet to the stock lower air filter housing, so again, don't count on reverting back to the stock system easily. The intake tube is a little bigger than stock, with a larger entry into the air filter housing and eliminates the stock resonator/etc. The air filter housing top is different, but is almost the same as the stock one except the inside roof is smoother. The stock one fits and seals better, so I stayed with the stock top. A foam-oil drop-in filter is included, and the K&N drop in filter works with this kit as well. (or even the stock filter, but you might lose a hp or two). It sound like stock at idle, there's a deep boomy resonance at 2200-3300 rpm at 80% to 100% open throttle (It comes on fairly abruptly at about 80% open), and a mild to moderate throaty growl added from 3500-redline at half to full throttle. I did some 25-40, 30-50, 40-55, and 45-55 runs in 2nd gear with my Tazzo VPC, and found avg hp were up about 1 hp from 3000-5000 and 3 hp from 5000-6000 compared to the stock system with a drop-in K&N filter. It seems a little expensive ($170 for what you get (mainly a new filter and a better intake tube), but so are all the other intakes. I like the fact that it's a true cold air intake, and like the sound overall, except for the low end boominess at WOT. ![]() Last edited by cristo : Sep 24th, 2004 at 06:36 PM. |

| EP3 wanna be | If you have changed your filter - Do It soon! Seriously i was a sceptic when it came to the replacement drop in filter... afterall what i knew abt filters where mainly your HKS and your Biltz. I always thought that these open pods filter would be better than drop in. However where i am at (where it is virtually 33 deg cel. everyday), the air is just too hot!! I go a drop in K & NFilter today and was shocked out of my wits to discover the dried leaves and dirt in my airbox. Car has been driven for 37,000km and the air filter is beyond words... i believe the original colour is orange or something but part of it is black. Grossly dirty and disgusting! Performance wise - not to bad for US$52 (SGD$90). I think for those that are not convinced, have a look at the pic i have attached. I am 100% not a representative for K&N. But hey if ya love your car, open the box and suss it out... ![]() |

Offline | I will post pics of mine soon! Need to bring my camera home from work!!! The pic shown, is a very over-engineered way of connecting the CDA! After consulting BMC uk - I connected straght to the throttle body, removing all the restrictive piping and bends used in the picture - no wonder there arent any real gains! Cold air is drawn straight from the underside of the car, by way of another alloy flexi pipe (BMC specifically manufacture these to withstand extreme temps), slightly bent at the bottom to aid a forced ram. Mine is deffinately noticeable! My friends Cooper starts to lag behind when we are giving it some heavy right foot action! The pick up is amazing! I didnt realise how loud it was until I got him to thrash past me, in my Cooper! This has got to be one of the loadest induction roars I have heard! Adds approx of 10bhp proven by BMC uk, at their depot when I went to collect it. Pics coming soon! ![]() |

Offline | I have a BMC too, but I cannot figure how to install it. Aren't you afraid of water ? Could it enter th lower pipe? And does your upper pipe touch the inside of the bonnet? Power is never enough |
