Question Why change the air filter?

I've seen alot of people talk about changing the stock air filter.. Just wondering what advantage you get from doing that? Sorry if this is a basic question, just wondering as air filters are so cheap..

thanks!

1. More induction noise.
2. More airflow - depending on design - and therefore more torque.
