OBD reader received! A quick question...?

Hi motorers!

I've received my MINI-Mania OBD2 reader/resetter and it is a nice device!

MINI-Mania did a great job and it comes with a nice carrying case too!

I have a quick question, can it be used on other cars, such as Audi for example?

Are the codes mean the same things for every OBD2 equipped cars?

Thanks for the help!

An additional question...

Are all teh paramaters of the Mini programmed through the OBD connector. For example, if I add Mini driving lights to my MCS, can I use the OBD2 tool to tell the car they exist instead of taking it to the dealer?

That I can answer...

unfortunately no... the OBD tool from MINI Mania is just a reader and resetter device...

But, your dealer should not charge you too much for activating driving lights, or any other small things... you should try to talk directly with the service manager to deal with him...

Part 2 answer.
It should work on all BMW models from 1988 to present.

Despite the branding it's just a Peake R5/FCXII tool

so it will not work on Audi??

I'm asking because I have many friends who own Audi ( 4 Audi to be exact) and I would really like to help them with my OBD scanner...??

Is it only for BMW products?

Thanks for the help!

well i was using a odb2 reader hard wired with my carpc, and that was ISO, (european standard) and will work on most cars over here. but that wasnt just to pull off errorcodes, so i dunno how yours works.

You can use it to reset fault codes, service lights,EML light and Emisions light. Always
check what fault codes it pulls up (and write them down) before re-setting.
Then check again to see if any come back. The emisions light can come on occasionally
and TBH is no big deal on its own. As long as your not getting P0420 with it.

Thanks a lot Roland!

P0420 means Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) right?

So, why is it the most important one? My guess is that I would need a new catalyst converter...

Thanks again for your help! I know you and Obehave are very busy and I appreciate your help!!

FWIW, I got an Actron CP9125 for Christmas from my wife ($79 at Autozone.) I can read and clear error codes on my MINI as well as any other vehicle built from 1996-on according to their literature. It does work on the MINI but I haven't checked any other vehicles yet.

As for resetting oilservice and inspection lights, and service mileage, I doubt it will do it. But I know there are instructions here on how to reset the oilservice light.

Do MINIs even have the inspection and service mileage indicators? Or are those just for BMW?

His - 04 CR/W MCS
Hers - 05 BEP/W MCS

That's great! It is half the price of the MINI Mania device!

Every time your start you MINI, the bottom of the speedometer displays the oil/service interval.

Hi Darkblue, yes the emisions light can come on because the pre- cat emisions, (straight from the engine,) are higher than Mr BMW intended. This could be due to various mods &
in particular more boost.
But if it throws up P0420 the second Lambda sensor (which effectivley compares its output to the first 'pre-cat' sensor )has alerted the fact that the cat
has not removed sufficient rubbish. I have seen this on 2 aftermarket cats, and I know others have, but never yet on a std cat. Do aftermarket cats last as long as OE? This is something we are looking at and hopefully addressing prior to launch of our new GTT Sports Manifold & Cat which
incorporates some very nice features. I will let more be known on here soon!
