Offline | Custom cat back vs. bolt-on This may be a stupid question, but is it worth the extra money to get a bolt-on cat back exhaust system versus taking to a muffler shop and get custom piping? |

Offline | Be careful with this. We have a guy in our club that spent $1500 on a custom exhaust (4 pipes, two on each side, relocated to outside corners) and now he is having trouble finding and areo kit that will still fit. I'd be lost if I had somewhere to be! |

Offline | Custom using stainless will cost you bucks. So extra money implies you're talking of regular mild steel piping. That won't last anywhere near as long. My Magnaflow for instances cracked at the resonator flange. I got a whole new system under warranty. Will your local shop do that? Maybe maybe not. That's just a couple of the options you need to consider when comparing value. I've said it a lot here.....cheaper isn't always better. |

Offline | If you got connections to get some free labor, or got a nice welder on hand, then a custom DIY catback isn't a bad idea at all................kind of a smart idea ............but if you don't have the items mentioned above, then going for an aftermarket one is the way to go. My SS catback on my Miata is absolutely beautiful. TIG welded, and fits like a charm, plus it would've taken lots of hours to have gotten this type of quality even with my own tools..................so it's clear to say that aftermarket catbacks is a smart way to go. If the company making it has done a terrific job, by working their butts off on the fit, flow, and sound, then it's worth the cash. Just my opinion though .---------------- Happy Motoring, Kurt STS2 #5 My 1990 Classic Red Miata |
