What octane rating do you use?

Okay, I know the MC calls for 91 octane, but I've heard from several owners who use 89 or even 87 octane with no noticable effects? One says it feels sluggish with 87, but there's no knocking, etc. And on my test drive, not knowing any better at the time, I put 5 gallons of 87 in the car and it was plenty fast!

So what's the harm of splitting the diff and using 89 octane fuel?

Lately I have been switching back and forth between 89 and 93. 91 just can't be found around here! I can't tell the difference between 89 and 93. Mileage doesn't change, performance doesn't seem to change. I thin kwith gas prices being what they are, I am inclined to just run 89 in it.

You may notice the difference if you track the car and get a good heat soak. The ECU should retard the timing until it doesn't knock, but you won't get complete combustion if that happens too much.

I've head of people using 87 on Subaru wrxs and STIs until the motor burns itself up. Not a happy ending.

IMHO, better off paying the extra dollar or three for a tank of the better stuff.
