Offline | S knocking Just took delivery today of a HB S Cabrio - great car Only 20 miles on clock and as I got to work the engine made a knocking sound - almost sounded like the valves? It's going back to the dealer tomorrow - But any ideas on what this may be? |

Offline | Not the clutch - Now the knocking is gone - it seems to be intermittant. It's that kind of knock that resembles the sound of a diesel knocking Maybe it's just an early hiccup from a new baby ![]() |

Offline | Any chance the knocking comes and goes with the A/C compressor engaging and cycling off? Mine does not but sometimes compressors can make some sounds--get it looked at in any event if you can hear it. Jim 2005 MCS |

Offline | Let us just hope you did not fuel it with crap gas, as low octane fuel will definetely cause an engine to knock, and while it is doing so it is also taking little tine metal chunks out of the top of your piston. If you put it say in fourth and "lug it" (get it to idle down to below 1500 RPM and step on the gas) and it knocks, that is very bad and you better a) not do it and b) get some decent fuel in it right away. Hope this helps |

Offline | update The dealer fueled it up and my MA said they always put Premium in it. The car only has 30 miles on the clock. Also - Update- I did put the clutch in while idling the chattering sound did go away. It still seems internmittant. Since I'm not sure what the engine is supposed to sound like normally I'm unsure. But the dealer has my car today and they are aware of the issue and are going to try to duplicate the "Chattering" sound. I guess I'm just a little nervous since the car is so new Thanks for the suggestions tho ![]() |
