Pulley Installed!!!!!!!!!

Hi all,

After months of procrastinating, I finally took my new pulley to Peaks and had it installed. Costed $370, 4.5 hrs and in return a different car. With extensive testing (half hour drive home...) I am very happy with it so far. The supercharger whine has been amplified from 2000 rpm on and power from every rev range has increased noticably.

Just want to let you guys into my excitement...woohoooo....

I know everyone has probably done quite some research on the pros and cons and also the results of a pulley... so please dont take this as me trying to tell anyone anything you didnt already know.

I am just excited about my new found power and would strongly recommend anyone who is also thinking about it.

Cheers

yeah i only went 15% for reliability issues... I know you ordered a 19%. Let me know how that goes... Peak also sells a 18% quite cheap....

I think its their own products. Had a chat with Nick. He was telling me how the threaded pulleys are not that good and can come loose (alta and others). The ones he sells has no threads and require heat treatment. He claims that they wont come loose.

Either way, for the price he charges (around $200 AUD), doesnt seem logical to buy from OS anymore. Then again, I might be wrong.

A 15% does not require a new belt. Pulley is around $220 incl gst. Labour is around $350-$380. Beats installing a cat-back anyday...

i know 15 is ok on stock belt. i meant for their 18% pulley thanks for the info on labour. do you know if that's the same rate regardless of whether it's their pulley or one sourced from OS?

Labours the same regardless. My pulley was sourced from OS. I really dont know about the belt for 18%. I dont think it will be much.

Go for it....

The belts are about $30 from any industrial supplies or spare parts joint...

I have heard of more problems with the interference type pulleys than the taper fit ones!!
Mainly people over heating the pulley and cooking the supercharger seal which leads to a oil leak and seizure if not caught in time. Only heard of one failure with a taper bore and that was a dodgy install as well, over tighting and striping out the threads. It wasnt a stainless item either.

so, in your opinions, what is the best type of pulley and brand in terms of reliability and strength?

Here's some other reading for you guys, pulleys and ECU. Sadly, don't get too excited by the US prices for the ECU upgrade, I believe Australian distributors are charging around $1K for the ECU and a bit under $200 for the pulley, plus fitting of course...

http://www.helix13.com/html/products...ew.php?p=6&h=m

...not too sure on any updates on the cable jobbie that allows you to change programs though. Probably not that big a deal on a supercharged car though, but would be great for turbo power.
