Upgrading Pulley

Hi guys,

I'm not very clued up with Supercharging, i was wondering with these pulley upgrades is a bigger percentage better than a smaller percentage (i.e 19% better than 15% as on Minispeed)? Also, would upgrading the pulley make the supercharger and/or engine as a whole more likely to go bang?

Almost forgot, how much of a gain would a pulley give?

Thanks,

-Rob

Hi Robfenn.

A 19% pulley mod will make the supercharger spin faster than a 15% pulley mod, and in effect give you more power. Most people do a 15% mod.

If you listen to what the mod shops say, they will tell you it's fine. If you use John Cooper Works (BMW's approved tuner for the MINI) to get an idea, it would suggest that it's not that good for the engine, because they modify the cylinder head and change/modify the supercharger. Some tuners think that's excessive.

It's all a matter of opinion at the end of the day, and if you're willing to take the chance.

I personally wouldnt do it, but I am rather particular about things like that. There are lots of other people that have done it and are happy with it.

Hope this helps.
