Offline | Firstly, Hi everyone... Took a break from M2 for a few weeks, came back & panicked for a day cos it had apparently disappeared Now it's back and looks bigger than ever... I had 45 pages of new threads to choose from when I logged in. Heaven or hell?! Anyway, my questions... I'm hoping to upgrade my stock 195/55 16 runflats for 205/50 16 in a higher performance spec, and have become aware of the Goodyear F1 GS-D2 in its EMT (runflat) form. The standard version of this won a major tyre test in Evo magazine this month Has anyone tried it in either runflat or std form, preferably on a MINI? I'm trying to get hold of these in runflat form in Oz, but may have problems... Does anyone know if running without a spare using non-runflats is street legal in Oz? Presumably in this case you take a can of that injection gunk as a hopeful fix for minor punctures If I do switch out of runflats - and the weight saving is an attraction here too - My other contender is the Toyo Proxes T1S, as recommended by Garfield I think. Anyone got these on a MINI yet? Answers to one or more of these rubbery questions will be gratefully recieved Thanks all... Offline | Rich, If you live in the bush or drive long distances from towns in Oz I'd get the EMT. The gunk is useful for minor punctures but if your tyre gets holed then you'd be up the creek sans paddle. I ran Eagle F1 EMTs on my old Saab company car. The reason was that they are the best overall tyre. Road noise is significantly less than the previous Bridgestone S02s. For me in the UK,tyres are more about ultimate wet weather grip/cornering/handling. I'm more worried about stopping distances in the wet and not getting intimate with other cars and hedges. There's very little difference in dry handling on tyres as we don't drive at 99% all the time. I also found that despite Bridgestones claim of dual tread compound (when the tyres are half worn there's a layer of "fresh" tread) was total cack. Once my NCT5 EMTs wear out I'm going to replace them with Eagle F1s. There is just one moon and one golden sun; And a smile mean friendship to ev'ryone; Through the mountains divide, and the oceans are wide; It's a small world after all. |

Offline | Thanks dcp... I rarely 'go bush', but is ***'s law that you're most likely to breakdown at the futhest point from any mechanical help If you want to stay safe in the wet, the Toyos seem to have a good rep too, though Evo criticised them for being a tad noisy, which may bug you Rich Cooper S, Jet Black w/ white roof, silver 16" X-Lite wheels, DSC, MFSW, dark tinted windows ...It's here & I love it! |
