Catback Question

Right then im probably in for a telling off here!

When ppl refer to a 'catback' exhaust what does this mean?

Have a MCS and thinking of getting the JCW exhaust from John Cooper(i know i cant get from BMW), but which one of the below is the one that is supplied on a JCW MCS, basically i wnt the same exhaust set-up as a JCW MCS.

Also, exhuast being the same as a JCW apart from a chrome bit on the end, would this cause any warranty problems? in theory you wouldnt think so, but would like some opinions

Thanks in advance

"Catback" basically means from the Catalytic Convertor backwards. So you're leaving the original manifold and Cat in place and just changing out the rear sections.

Companies like Miltek and Janspeed do full systems including Manifold, Sports Cat and rear sections. The JCW I believe is just a Cat-back. No doubt someone will correct me on this....

I believe the difference between the two exhausts you show is that the one on the left has a resonator built in (which would go right after the cat) whereas the one on the right doesn't - this might be what is referred to as a straight-through exhaust (therefore, louder).
