Offline | Gear Box Gone! Bit of a disaster today as the gearbox in my sister's 02 plate cooper has gone. Can't really believe it at still such an early stage in the mini's life. Rang up BMW and got quoted £1536 seems BMW have a bit of a cartel on their parts as nobody else seems to be supplying them. So this is a bit of a hopeful plea as to whether anyone knows of suppliers where i can get one cheaper than BMW or if anyone for whatever bizarre reason happens to have one sitting in the garage? She's just about to start Uni and is needless to say pretty upset, so any help would be much appreciated |

Offline | stongly recommend you do a searc on here using 'midlands gear box' as your search words. Someone else recetly had this happen on an out of warranty car, and have got BMW to pay part of the charge to fix it ![]() The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive? ![]() |

Offline | Try http://www.findagearbox.co.uk/ or http://www.247spares.co.uk/. It's always worth ago as I know recently on a different car they wanted £1200 for a gearbox but managed to get one delivered by a really good company for £200. If your like me i'm not willing to waste money on a brand new factory box when I can get a nearly brand new box from a written off car.Good Luck ![]() |

Offline | Rakey you don't know who that was do you? sent a post to dpms2 as they seemed to get their's replaced. Was wondering if that was the user you were referring to as the more info/cases i could gather on this the better chance i would have of getting BMW to do something about it. I am absolutely disgusted by this and didn't realise how many of us have had problems with them! BMW have really taken an easy route on this with a blatant disregard of the quality that they are renowned for. Thanks for the advice/info guys, really do appreciate it. Thus far i've been quoted £700 for a refurbished gear box fully fitted from a v good local mechanic. The £1536 + vat for parts alone from BMW was a killer. |

Offline | How about a quick call to your local trading standards department, i think that a gearbox should be expected to last longer than that ! It comes under the "goods fit for the purpose" banner, good luck regards Damian. ![]() ![]() |
