Offline | Picture factory rear window with 50% and 35% tinted front window Hi I have factory tinted rear window on my MINI Now I want to tint my front windows too. Problem I cant decide which tint I want. I can choose between 50% and 35% 35% is close to the fatory tint, but I am afraid this is too dark Anyone got a pic of 50% and 35% front window with factory tinted glass? |

Offline | I was told a 35% tint is pretty much a perfect match for the factory tints. I have 25% tint on mine, mainly because tinted windows are illegal in the UK so I had to go for the lightest tint possible to avoid attention from the police. Pics in my gallery, might give you an idea of what a lighter tint looks like. |

Offline | In the Uk anything more than 30% is illegal on windscreen and front windows. Unofficially between 30-50% you will get a warning and be made to remove the tint, and have to take your car in to prove you have removed it. Anything over 70% and they will compound the car. At least these are the guidlines of a number of police forces, many of which now carry devices to measure the tint level when out on the beat as it were. |

Offline | I know that most will find this boring but..... Regulation 32 (10) Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 deals with window tinting on all Motor Vehicles. It basically states that 75% of light must be allowed to pass through the windscreen and 70% through the front windows. Most Traffic vehicles carry a device called Tintman which obviously measures tint levels. I haven't checked my MCS but the Volvos at work are almost exactly specified as above. Exceeding the legal levels could have serious ramifications in certain situations such as collisions e.g. being prosecuted for a more serious offence or simply invalidating your insurance. |
