![]() Taller Than You! | I've seen plenty of tinted windscreens in manchester... badboy racers hide behind them. As for tints I got mine at pentagon glass. Rear smoke, front light smoke the darkest tint you are apprently legally allowed. I would have liked smoke all round but i've heard stories of fines and cops telling people to pull them off at the road side. ![]() |

Offline | must be 5% tint then since the standard mini windows at already tinted from the factory and 99.9% of tints put you over the legal limit. If the windows are already 10% and the limits 15% a 15% tint will put you way over as quite a few people have found out when VOSA pull out the light tester. In most cases its only been film so they make you peel it off and your on your way. |

Offline | thats the numbers I was looking for! Now for those that dont completely understand tints grades and what 30% really means and why legally its almost impossible to tint the front windows, read this link from my local tinting company. http://www.sctints.co.uk/regulations.htm I believe the Mini windows being slightly tinted from factory must be on the legal limit. |

![]() MINI2 Master | Yep most cars are now supplied with slightly tinted glass - open the door and look at the edge of the glass against the surroundings - light tint you see. This is the maximum allowed on all front widows in the UK. I looked into this at some length a while ago as I wanted a slightly darker tint to the front window pair. Shame as you can't have it now - all the fault of scumbag drug-dealers and boy-racers who had limo-black put on their cars. |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | So to sum up. Those who posted at the top of this thread that their 5% tint is legal are mistaken, this page from pentagons website will confirm this to you. The 5% was fine before the ammendment on Jan 1st 2004 but not now. It also applies to all vehicles regardless of age or when the tint was applied. If you have an accident the tint will invalidate your insurance and you could be prosecuted resulting in a fine and points. ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

Offline | You can get away with 5% tint if your windows are just straight glass and not tinted like the Mini is. SCTints have refused to do front windows now as its too much of a minefield. I feel sorry for them personally as their business that must be suffering. But they do a fantastic job at fitting roof graphics ![]() |

| Trainee Bubblegoose | I got pulled over for this in Manchester Centre a couple of weeks ago (on the run up to christmas at about 1.30am) They pulled out some crazy device that tested my tinted windows and found them to be perfectly legal (I only have standard MINI tints so far) Whilst we're on the subject roughly how much should I expect to pay to have my rear widows and boot window re-tined? anybody know? | Trainee Bubblegoose | Wait a sec 6 points in two years? Oh jeez. I got my licence last feb when I was 17 and got a notice through the post that I'd been caught speeding on the M6 by and average speed checker. I'm not sure if I will get points, the letter said I may just get a caution (it was the initial letter to check it was me driving) but I've been quit calm about it presuming that by the time the points have gone on my licence it will be a year old - I didn't realise it was two years until the 6 point limit was lifted! Glad I bought that snooper now. I best be careful though! Thanks for the facts Boyracer, you may have saved my licence! Harrop ![]() |
