| my ponies have escaped!!! | The Window Tinting Thread - Pics & Advice ::Window Tinting:: I have read around the legal waffle and pulled out the bits we need to know from here ..... http://www.sctints.co.uk/regulations.htm ::Please take the time to read it as there are some valuable information on there:: ::Legislation:: Section 32 of the Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) Regulations was amended on 1st January 2004. This effectively banned the practice of applying virtually any tinted films forward of the B-Post (to front passenger and driver) windows on any vehicle that is to be driven on UK roads. ::Implications for the Installer and Motor Retailer:: From 1st January 2004 any Motor Retailer that sells a vehicle that has window tint films applied which reduce visible light transmission levels to below prescribed levels forward of the B-Post is committing an offence and runs the risk of prosecution under Section 75 of the 1988 Road Traffic Act with reference to Section 41 (which defers to Construction and Use Regulations). In a similar way, anyone responsible for the fitment of window tints which reduce visible light transmission level to below prescribed levels on windows forward of the B-Post is committing an offence and can also be prosecuted under Section 76 of the 1988 Road Traffic Act. If you have had your windows tinted it is highly likely the retailer has undertaken “the job” without providing any written receipt or guarantee (other than goodwill) so that s/he does not get prosecuted. ::You own a car that was tinted pre 1st January 2004:: If you do the police should treat you fairly as long as they do not pose a danger (limo tints). ::Percentage Tint:: Allowable light into the car (Dark) 1% --------------------> 100% (Light) The lower the %, the less light allowed through The legal restriction for passenger and driver side windows is 30% anything less than 30% is illegal Mini windows are approximately 5% tinted from standard ie the normal glass (not the optional rear tints that are available). Therefore before choosing a tint % I would add say a 5% addition to the level of tint in order to stay within the legal requirement. Bear this in mind - if you opt for 30% tint film, in reality you are getting 25% which is of course illegal but only just. ::Links:: Random Tint company links in the UK http://www.glass1tints.com/ - used by myself, Rich_IX and Mini_Nick http://www.sctints.co.uk/regulations.htm http://www.pentagonglasstech.com/cat...r_vehicles.asp http://www.atintofclass.co.uk/ http://www.autoshades.co.uk/ http://www.rcstinting.co.uk/ Editorial at Pentagon with pictures http://www.mini2.com/index.php?page=editorial&newsid=22 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Example of Tint shades (courtesy of Pentagon) ![]() ![]() ::Mini2 cars:: 1. me – 50% all round 2. Offline | Wish I read this earlier as I was forced to remove tints on a CTR I was driving a few weeks back. It made a right mess and the lad that owns the car is still trying to clean the residue off the glass. The car in question was tinted from new, in 03. ![]() |

| my ponies have escaped!!! | its a bit like "speeding" - its illegal but your not gonna get stopped for doing 35mph in a 30 zone similar (ish) to tints - if you go for a light shade you shouldnt stand out as much as someone with limo tints. conclusion..... light tint = 35mph limo tint = 70mph its totally dependant on which police man you happen to cross paths with (fortunately) ![]() m o n k e y : n u t s |
