Painting wheelarches/skirts

I'm considering getting a few mods done on my Cooper when it's finally paid off in 6 months, basically to save me getting a new car because I'm bad like that!!

I'm thinking of:-

Front/back Aero bumpers (keeping chrome grill)
2 Driving lights
Possibly new wheels (black multispokes like Scoobys perhaps...)

And, maybe painting the wheelarches/skirts/black plastic on bottom of front/back bumpers to black.

Do you think this would look ok on my car (IB/B)? I haven't seen any painted black skirts on an IB, maybe it'll look a bit too much (drawing attention to the arches/skirts too much), or maybe it'll look awesome? Who knows!!

Anyone have any pics?

Also how much will it roughly cost do you think? I'm thinking of going to Minidesign in Leeds.

Thanks!

Photoshop a picture of your car too see how it will look.

Personally im really not a fan of non body colour arches and skirts. But at the end of the day it's your car and YOU alone has to be happy with it.

i recon that will look really cool...

As you still have the same colours, but you have gotten rid of the horrible grey looking matt plastic....

id say go for painting the arches black....

Not too bad bearing in mind how much needs to be painted. Not an easy task being plastic and the paint to do it is more expensive.

Yeah £400 isn't too bad!

Only problem is the arches will then look better than the rest of my car!! I've had it for 3 years so the paintwork is all swirled with fine scratches (and a couple of deeper ones)..annoys the hell out of me!! :P

If your thinking about getting aero bumpers then these tend to need spraying.

If you get your arches / skirts done at the same time then it may work out cheaper.

I was charged £140 for my arches etc when i had my aero kit done - though I think they may have made a slight mistake as it was the first time it had been requested at the dealership I got the car from.

£140 is damn cheap!

And from BMW too??

How's the paint going on the arches? Any paint chips or anything?

Will this get most of the fine swirled scratches out? Any tips or which wax to buy?

Ben: where did you get 'em done for £250 then? You got the wheelarches/side skirts and bottom front/back bumper trims done didn't you? Looks good!

How long since you had them painted? Any problems with paint chipping etc.?

Do the bodyshops usually provide the paint? If so will they use MINI black paint (so the paint matches the roof)?

Went to my BMW dealer to get a quote for the painting of the arches and front/rear lips so that the paintwork would be under warranty. Not much change from 900 notes

Got it done at JR autobodies in chapeltown (not dodgy, may sound it but not at all). Awesome, Dont know the guys but they've done all my work,, Wouldn't trust anyone else.

No but definately worth the drive to leeds to this place. They'll do all the things you want cheap and quality. Take a look at my brakes, arches, petrol cap in gallery!

Is it normal practice to remove the wheelarches/skirts etc. when painting them? Or is the car just usually masked over?

Thinking about getting the rear chrome bumper line (03 Cooper) painted body colour too, also wondering if it comes off or not??

Ben: was that £250 inc. paint and they got it for you? Or did you provide the paint yourself?

Also, what if the plastic trim isn't 100% (which of course it isn't after 35000 miles and 3 years! It's chipped a bit and scuffed in some places etc.). Will they sand it down or something first so it's still ok to paint onto?
