DIY Antenna/Aerial 'Shark Fin' Mod

I know that many on this forum have expressed dislike for the look of the stock antenna. Some have commented that it makes your MINI look like a remote control car. I have long admired the shark fin antenna look--it looks much more sleek and stream-lined. I decided to post the method I used to mod my antenna, so others could learn.

1) While driving home on a Friday afternoon, try to spot a large bird on the side of the road. I found that wild turkeys work well, although you may substitute a different bird.
2) Drive by the bird at high speed. The bird will be awestruck by your new MINI. He will absenty mindedly fly towards you to get a closer look.
3) Duck down in the driver's seat and swerve. When the bird hits your windshield, he will roll across the roof and and knock off your unsightly antenna.
4) The hard part is over. Now all you have to do is fill the gap in your antenna mount with caulk. Before the caulk dries, smooth it with your finger. After the caulk has dried, paint it black--so it matches.
5) Ensure that the radio gets adequate reception with the new antenna.

Ok, ok--it wasn't really a mod--more of a repair. I'm sure someone else out there has broken off their antenna. This is just gives you a low labor/low cost option for repair. It really does look better than the stock antenna, in my opinion. Also, I've noticed no change in reception.

Doris. She's fit for a big bird.

Hey silly should be she if it is a bird. How do you tell if they are tanked up with enough Red Bull?

Shouldn't you check the purse first? May have some cash.

Prize for every true American who deciphers the reference to Red Bull. Nothing to do

I thought I'd post a picture of what it looks like. You can see a little lump of caulk, but it doesn't really stand out at a glance.

I personally installed the antenna from the Honda S2000. It's about 7 in. long as opposed to the 18" stock one.

I like it a lot, but I noted another MCS at my work site that had the shark style antenna from a newer BMW. Not sure how he got that though.
