Australia Am I being "dumb femaled"?

Just after some advice from those who know the ins and outs of window tinting please...

I had my baby tinted two weeks ago, and there are quite a few bubbles all over the place - something I've never experienced with previously tinted cars.

I returned to the scene of the crime this morning, and besides being rather rude to me they claim that the bubbles are water which will evaporate in the next few weeks, rather than bad workmanship on their behalf.

I'm just wondering if I am being treated like a bimbo due to a lack of dangly bits, or is this actual fact?

I understand that the tint can't adhere properly around the black bumps on the rear three windows, however there are many other bubbles on each surface, which I could take photos of if need be.

Many thanks if anybody can help.

MsAmy.

Go back and tell them to fix it. There should not be any bubbles.

Hi MsAmy,

Your are right to be concerned, and I don't think you were being dumb. I was looking for some vinly lettering yesterday, and just happened upon some fitting instructions.

They mention that there may be some water bubbles which will evaporate in a few weeks. The page in question is http://www.letteringdirect.com/vinyl...nstruction.htm and section 9 in the instructions mentions this.

I wouldn't recommend pricking them or trying to do anything with them yet, just give them the benifit of the doubt for the moment, and then I'd pop back again in 3 weeks if they haven't imrpoved. Take someone with you, most reputable places tend to behave themselves better if there is a witness present.

Goods luck

Take pictures as soon as possible showing the date on the pictures, so you'll have PROOF of what it looked like, just days after they installed them (did you get a recipt?). Tell them to fix it, and if they refuse, take them to court. Usually in the US at least, when you tell a company that you'll take them to court and have proof, they'll fix it for ya! (from what I've heard)

Thanks everybody for advice, much appreciated.

I'll take some photos today, but play it cool for a couple of weeks and see what happens bubble-wise.

Cheers!

I've noticed while being on this forum it seems that the UK has MUCH stricter laws and regulations. That must really suck. Some of the ones I've heard:

-You must tell you insurence company about any mod you get?
-Those "restricted" license plates.
-Can't get your license until your 18?

There's more, but I can't think of them. I really feel sorry for you guys! It's getting worse and worse here in the States....and Ohio is one of the few states where you can still mod your car in whatever way you want. I've heard in California, you can't even add on an aftermarket intake system?

your post struck a nerve with me 'cause not only will this be my first mini, this will be my first car ever & I'm a woman so I'm real worried about being treated like a dummy & ripped off too.I used to do window display so I have put many, many decals on to many surfaces (glass, wood, metal, mirror) & it takes awhile to get the hang of it, it is very easy to make a mistake. And let me just say first off I don't know anything about tinted windows what & how they are made; BUT if it is basically the same thing; applying vinyl /plastic to glass, the only reason for there to be a " water bubble" is that the window was not properly dried before application...they missed a spot. And the only reason for there to be an air bubble is the decal was not properly applied & they chose to leave it.Again I've never tinted a window on a car this is just my experience working with decals. Definitely take a picture with the date, keep the receipt & go to another place that tints windows & ask them. Good luck.

Amy,

Never had tinted windows, though I've lived in places that needed them. The advice about taking pictures now with date stamped on them sounds like fine advice.

If they're still there in three weeks, pop around again and bring a big male with you. I hate having to do this, but if it's the only language the brutes understand, or the only person they're willing to give a real explanation to, well, then you bring along the testosterone-translator.

Cody,

Having lived in both the British Isles and the US, I can say yes, things are a bit different between the two places. If you yell loud enough, people will usually re-do work to shut you up in the US. On the other hand, the regulations in the UK tend to insure that people do better work, and that things are a bit more levelheaded, rather than just the squeaky wheel getting the grease. And some of the regulations are downright good. Dunno if you realised this, but your state has no inspections ever required of a car ... so you could buy a car, and legally drive it without ever changing the tyres, brakes, bulbs, wipers, etc. Not too safe!
