Did I get the wrong OEM bonnet stripes?

I've just picked up my '06 MCS from getting its bonnet resprayed at a private shop (recommended by my dealer). They did a great job on the paint, but the new bonnet stripes (OEM parts) appear to be quite a bit shorter than the factory ones I had before.

There is an inch gap between the end of the stripe and the front (bottom) edge of the bonnet. The OEM ones that were on there from the factory came almost to the end They said they got the stripes from the dealer.

Is there perhaps a difference between stripes for a Cooper and a Cooper S, and someone got the wrong part number?

Doesn't sound right to me, do you have any photos? Wondering if they've fitted them to the wrong sides, and maybe then trimmed them (I've seen that before, believe it or not!).

Here are some photos. First, here is how the OEM stripes looked.

Below are some quick pics I shot of the "new" stripes... They don't look to be trimmed.

Firstly, as far as I'm aware here in the UK all bonnet stripes are not fitted at the factory, but by the dealer when preparing the car for the customer. Not sure about Canada?

All genuine BMW stripes that I have seen, white stripes will have a thin black pin stripe down each side, Black stripes will have a thin white pin stripe down each side.

Yes, both sets (new and old) are OEM, and have the black pinstriping on the edges. The car had the stripes on it before it went through the PDI cleanup, so I'm fairly certain they were applied at the factory.

That would make sense (Cooper over S) I guess, they're certainly not right, regardless of why.

the cooper and cooper s stripes are the same ones...no difference in length. they have been badly fitted. I recently fitted mine to my cooper s and they take a little massage to make them fit length wise. once a little warm the stretch a little allowing them to go all the way to the edge. if you just slapped them on they would look like yours! gettem changed by someone who has a clue!

MY MINI WAS A: 03 Chilli Red White Cooper S
I'VE HAD IN BETWEEN: BMW Z4 2.5 V6, Golf GTi 2.0T DSG
AND I'M BACK TO: 04 Dark Silver Mini cooper S

Cooper S stripes ARE different! Not sure if its length or the angles the ends are trimmed at but as far as i'm aware you have to specify "one/cooper" or "cooper s" when ordering.
This was certainly the case when I ordered mine.
I wish I could remember the name of the English company who supply Mini UK cos i'd link to their site.

There are some many types of stripes... For One/Cooper and Cooper S (larger beacuse the bonnet is larger and makes more curvature). There are the white with the little black line at the extrems; inverted; all white, and all black
If you see in the ETK there are many refferences for the bonnets: one color, two colours, squared, etc.

Well, I searched on Realoem.com. As I suspected, for a white stripe /w black edging there are different part numbers for a Cooper and a Cooper S. Makes perfect sense, with the higher curvature of the bonnet with the scoop, that the S version would have to be slightly longer...

Now to get them to fit the right ones! I'll be making a few calls come Monday morning.

Is it just me, or do those bonnet stripes not even look even/straight? Whoever did that job clearly does not know MINI's and they are BAD. When ordering them, they probably just got the Cooper ones, thinking the make of the car. A MINI Cooper, not knowing there's a difference between a Cooper and a Cooper S.

check the uk accessories brochure. You will find long and short bonnet stripes with and without pinstripes. Longer are for cooper s, definitely looks like they fitted one/cooper set.

There are loads and the dealer has probably made an honest mistake, show them their own brochure, they cant argue with that

S and Cooper have different numbers according to RealOEM too:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...& hg=51&fg=95
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...& hg=51&fg=95

(Note they are RHD Cooper & S, not LHD, didn't check if that makes a difference).

I gave the body shop a ring to talk about my stripes, and talked to them abou the different part numers. After they consulted with the supplying dealer, they rang back to say that the dealer had made a mistake, and would be sending them new (and presumably proper) stripes to be fitted.

I guess it was a good move to fit the stripes on top of the 3M rockshield (clearbra) that the shop put on, and not underneath!

I also think I'll print up a couple of pictures of my original stripes when I drop the car off, just so they know where everything goes.

Ireland

My MINI had incorrectly fitted bonnet stripes when I collected her.
See pic:

Did'nt go back to that Dealer anymore, numerous other issues also!(Bolands,Waterford).
Fitted them at my specialist Mini dealer instead.
