Offline | Cooper S Fog Lights OK so Im picking up my new Cooper S tomorrow, its not my spec as I walked in off the street and found a cancelled order. My question is (the dealer doesnt seem sure !!) can front fogs be fitted after leaving the factory and if so any idea how much? ---------------------------------------------- EB Cooper S White Roof, Gravity Leather Oxford Green X5 (when the wife lets me drive it. |

Offline | The front fog lights require a different front cowl (2 holes). It should be available through the body shop of your dealer. I don't know if they can add another switch your your dash or not. If they do, let us know. I'ld like to add another switch to mine to fill the empty spot. Cooper S EB/W/Mag ----------------- |

Offline | My Cooper S doesn't have fog lights, but it DOES have the holes for them. (They're just covered with ventilated inserts that I'm sure can be removed easily). Enjoying every second of my S! (Just wish the fuel economy would hurry up and improve..) |

Offline | It so happens that the fog lights are the only MINI accessory that can be retrofitted to a car at less than what it costs for factory installation. Most other features such as xenon lights, multi-func. steering wheel, etc. cost 3X-4X the factory cost to retrofit. For the fog-lights there is a European market retrofit kit, for which there are three part numbers, depending on the toggle switch pak you want for your MINI:63 17 0 029 799 togglesw. with DSC 63 17 0 029 797 togglesw. with ASC+T 63 17 0 029 757 no toggle in 2nd pos. The upgrade kit has a new toggle switchpak, a pair of foglamps, relay, fuse, wiring harness, misc. hardware, and instructions for around $215usd (£137), but you will end up with an extra toggle switchpak which is worth about £70 for a final cost to you of around £67, if you sell the remaining switch. The foglights from the factory are $140usd (£89). So they're cheaper than factory installed! Oh sure, you now have to install them yourself or pay someone else if you need to---but your labor is free anyways--right?.Now the question I have is, why do you have to depend on a septic to answer your question, instead of your dealer? You know your dealer has to have this information. Don't all UK MINIs come standard with both front and rear foglights?Jerry Last edited by karmuze : Jul 26th, 2002 at 04:39 PM. |

Offline | as for filling toggle slots I was told that you can only order the toggles a one piece row. You have to tell them what options you have and they replace it with exactly the same piece. I wanted to use extra space for amplifier turn ons, but you can't get the toggles seperately. This is what my dealer told me. If anyone knows something different, please let me know. Thank you Bob |

Offline | It's kind of like "No user servicable parts inside" msg. The dealer is set up to replace the whole bank and reconnect the plug. If your handy, you can add one. They aren't switches, just toggles pushing keyboard contacts like on you computer. There is a thread about adding a garage door opener. http://bobodyne.com/web-docs/robots/...tch/index.html It includes a bunch of pictures of the switch bank. If you were to buy a bank of switches, I'll bet you can put those switches into any blank switch bank spot. You should probably cut the wire from the new switch to the computer and you need a low current load (solid state, maybe a relay). How to get a switch? someone buys a bank and sells the extras. Unless someone can find a source for just switches. It's my first planned mod (garage door opener) after adding rogue translucent stripes. Indi Blue MCS, Born Sep-13 Sport, Premium, Roof Rack |

Offline | MiniShuttle.... Many thanks for the link to Roque Engineering and the picture of the luminescent hood stripe kit. I have not seen a picture of this Viper styled stripe on a IB MINI yet, however, I shall definitely let you know the moment I come across one. ![]() 2005 Mercedes Benz C55 AMG 2006 BMW Z4 M-Coupe - Premium Pkg. 2007 Honda Fit - Sports Pkg. 2005 V-Star 1100 Custom 2007 Honda 250 Reflex |

Offline | Re: McprS--today's your lucky day Rear fog lights yes as it's a legal requirement. Although to be honest they are a pain in the a&%e. You hardly ever need them due to fog, I think (the young guys who've just passed their test should be able to corect me if I'm wrong ) you are only allowed to switch them on when the visibility is less than 100yds.... but... the problem is loads of folk over here switch them on and leave them on for months without realising that they are blinding the people behind them AND making it less likely that they see your brakes lamps going on. OK rant over. The front fogs are optional - at least on my ONE they were. I "think" the same regs apply to their use but they do look cool. |

Offline | KenL and Marts, for correcting the misunderstanding I had about both F & R foglights being a UK requirement. I can't remember ever seeing a interior photo of a RHD MINI without a front fog toggle switch. Hmmmm....it's the same way over here, with US drivers leaving front fogs light on all the time. They seem to think they can use them as driving lights, even though they are designed to widely disperse the light 50 feet in front of the car to aid visibility in LOW visibility conditions. I don't think that increased light intensity 50 feet in front of the car at 60MPH is going to help you an awful lot, when it takes 140-180 feet to stop the car at that speed! If you want driving lights, then BUY DRIVING LIGHTS. rant not over yet ![]() Jerry |

Offline | They are included on the minis in the relevent packages(salt, pepper, chili). Most people purchase the packages with their cars in the UK and as such get the front fogs.... I've only ever seen a few minis (all ones) without the fogs.(presume they're lease cars).... they are a £90.00 option if not purchased with a package ..(i believe) |

Offline | Karmuze Thanks for the info, I will follow it through. I really dont understand why the guy/gal who speced my MCS didnt choose the Fog lights option or come to that why he eventually cancelled the order. And as for my dealer not knowing about the supply thereof, she has now got back to me and indivcated that they can be retro fitted, but with approx 3 hours of labour at BMW hourly rates!!!! Thanks again. 'You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off.' SOLD it! |

Offline | Re: McprS--today's your lucky day You mentioned there is a European retrofit kit. (1) Will this work on US MINIs as well? (2) Is it possible to DIY, assuming average mechanical skills? Inquiring mimes want to know, but can't ask. Only dead fish swim with the current 100% of the time. On a clear, hot summer night, you can hear a Ford rust. |

Offline | It's a EU kit due to the use of toggle switchpak with the mandatory rear fog switch on it. With a US car the switch won't be functional. Second cavet is, not all US dealers will order non-US part numbers, since they come from Germany and take 2+ weeks. If your dealer won't, call around to other dealers until you find one that will do special orders. If you need a lead there send me a PM, but try your local dealer first. The install looks like it would simple but time consuming, since the front bumper cover comes off to attach the light brackets. Do a search here for front bumper removal, to see what that involves. The installation instructions will probably be in British English, so you'll have to be able to translate "relaease the catch on the bonnet to connect the earth wire to fuse block next to the wing using a spanner", into proper Yanki English. Oh, and you'll have to reverse the driver's side and passenger side lamps to be able to aim them properly. N/S.So, tickety boo and have a go mate, and don't be a jibber. Cheers. ![]() Jerry |
