Is it possible to add headlights without any involvement from BMW. My collegue at work has a set of spotlights which he informed me, needed to be activated through the software by BMW. All this came to £400. Seems like a lot to me.

I wouldnt mind getting hold of that software package myself. I presume it runs through a laptop with the correct data connection.

I believe you can add ancillary lights if you use relays. For example a connection from the main beam activates a relay which then switches on the ancillaries.

This is something i had planned to do too - sounds harder than i thought it would be!

there are two options, you could buy the OEM lights, fit them yourself and then just pay the dealer the activation charge, which will be about £45 if they are not trying to rob you

Or you could buy a set of the Hella lights, and these just hard wire into the main beam. These also don't rust like the OEM lights and are brighter too
