Offline | 4 spotlights has anyone fitted 4 spotlights to their mini and if so have you had any problems with over heating as i have read on here that fiiting them to a mini made after april 2004 affects your warranty and could cause over heating thanks |

Offline | I haven't experienced any overheating yet (*touches wood*). Altough surely the best people to ask would be the owners of the Mini below, from the Mini Pirate advert, used for rallying and totally blocking the lower intake and has smaller spots on the upper grill as well If these guys don't have much issue then I guess we shouldn't worry to much (*finds a tree to touch this time*) ![]() |

Offline | GARYB1 possibly means overheating the connecting wires. I'd check whether they can take the current required by 4 lamps before I added any more than 2. Otherwise the connecting wires could act like an electric fire! |

Offline | Hiya, I considered fitted the 4 BMW spots ages ago but it was going to cost some £500 from my dealer so just went for the two. I was always a little non the wiser regarding the overheating issue, I think BMW were saying the extra light could interfere with the airflow. I'am sure also orginally you were suposed to have uprated gas struts due to the extra weight on the bonnet. Would definitely check regarding overloading the wiring and I reckon it would be better to fit the four onto a light bar than having individual brackets. I saw an S the other day and the lights were dancing around like flower pot men, just the 2 on my S vibrate a fair bit Cheers |

Offline | I asked our master tech what the reason for it was. Apparently, there were 2 MINI's that caused the problem. The first was dodgy wiring, that caused a fire (I'd say that it was down to a dodgy technician if you ask me) and the other was a car that kept over heating. MINI issued a statement that the 4 spotlights were restricting the flow of air through the grill into the radiator. I personally have no reservations fitting them to Ones, Coopers and S's, but have noticed that the One D seems to suffer with 2 on (temp guage sitting higher than norm), and I know of a few of the diesels that have overheated with 4 on the bonnet. I have 4 Wipac's on mine, and not a problem at all. Elliot. Midlanders... Feed your addiction at miniaddiction |

Offline | So according to BMW the cooling system on both the cooper s and cooper is so marginal that 2 extra spots will cause it to overheat? what even when stationary?? is that why they always fit the number plate wrongly covering the air intale ? or is it the extra weight on the bonnet struts? or is it the extra current through the cables ? despite using an extra relay? or perhaps its all tosh and its the fact that BMW do not make a 4 driving light kit ! If BMW were that concerned about the cooling system why did they not produce a better reservoir tank that does not split or radiator that does not split or cooling fan that does not share a supply fuse with the P/ S fan or indeed a cooling system that does not constantly need topping up, all a bit curious especially if you consider the early S is 163 bhp and the Works GP is 218 bhp and they share the same cooling system! I guess you definately cant fit 4 driving lights to the GP! ![]() |
