Could really do with a bit of advice on restoring paint to as near original as possible.

I have recently fitted a Aero Kit to my Liquid Yellow, and it looks really good but there is a faint colour difference between the new Kit and the old Paint work.

Is there a product that will help restore the Original Paint?

From what I have read during my search, T-Cut is no good as modern paints are too hard for this product.

Any advice would be very gratefully received.

When polishing my mums Mercedes SL recently (1994 - never been polished), went for a wash, followed by treatment with Meguires Quick Clay system, followed by AutoGlym Paint restorer, followed by AutoGylm Super Resin Polish, and then the new Meguires Wax.

Looked as good as new.

At our last run we noticed that Arron's (MINI Poser) Liquid Yellow JCW works MCS 04 reg? had a slightly different aero kit body colour shade to the normal paint work. We thought it was because of the different plastic surface the paint was going on. Not sure though. It is quite noticable once its been spotted.

Try the paint restorer Jon's mentioned. I wouldn't have thought it would be that your existing colour has faded.

I had a liquid yellow cooper and when i fitted the aero kit i noticed a slightly different colour i think its the different surface that the paint is on i.e palstic bumpers and metal paintwork! and also with fade on the paintowrk is a factor!

maybe a rotary polisher and and a full clean i.e polish glaze seal will help!

If you want to restore the paintwork then you need to give it a going over with a rotary or a PC. Although with BMW paint being hard it would be much better to get it polished up by rotary. Just make sure whoever does it (or if you do it...) then I would get some paint gauge readings first. Make sure you have enough to work with before its hit with the rotary. Dont want to be cutting right the way through your clear coat

As for polish, it could be given a full going over with Megs #83 then Megs #80. However, if this doesnt bring the paint up well and/or remove defects then you need to go for something stronger.

A stronger combo would be some Menzerna PO85RD Intensive Polish, finished with Menzerna P085RD Final Finish Polish. Maybe throw some powergloss in there before if its needed. However, you may find this isnt needed to bring up the finish as this combo is quite intense

Follow this up with a good sealant then wax. Or even just 1 or 2 layers of Collonite 476S wax as this is highly durable and acts as a sealant aswell as a wax This will seal all your hard work in, and leave a protective layer on your paintwork. You then wont have to polish/wax your MINI again for around 6 months (when all you need to do is top up the wax, no polishing needed). Maybe after 12 months strip it all off and polish again.

To be honest its not really complex. Its just polishing your car with different polishes one after another. But using the correct polishes is probably the hardest part this being why I suggested a few combinations

Also im sure that there is two shade of liquid yellow as i bought a can of spray for my LY cooper and they came up with 2 shaed n i had tyo check which 1 under the bonnet!

Wow. Just checked out the site. OCD looks awesome.
Which service was the £150 for? Is that for the full works with bells and whistles? My mum has driven my MCS to close to one too many hedges one too many times. Do they cover up chips and scuffs too?

Price all depends on how much and what needs to be done to your paint work. Also depends on he size of your car, but with you having a MINI that helps as they arent exactly big As with most detailing companies there arent really any set in stone prices or detailing routines. Is basically tailored to what you want.

Scott works mainly by himeself at OCD but believe he has now taken on someone else to give him a hand. You are best just getting in touch with him but via email would be best as he has a hearing inpedement and finds it hard to speak on the phone. I communicated fully via email, told him the situation with my paint (ie bad swirls? light swirls? scratches? etc), told him what i was looking for (full paint correction? full protective LSP layer etc etc) and he gave me a quote. Dont worry though, if you take your MINI there it will be in capable hands. You can either take it to him house where he has a large garage to work in incase it rains or he can come to you. But its really better to take it to him if you can as he has everything he needs there and you dont have to start showing him where your water supply is etc. Plus, if you dont have a big enough garage with sufficient lighting yourself then the detail would have to be cancelled and rescheduled.

Hope I have covered everything let me know if you decide to take it to him, and also it would be good if you let him know i recommended you
