Not to bad on the 1st gen Mini
Remove the door panel - easy
Then you need a small right angle allen key or small ratchet with allen key bit to remove the 2 bolts securing the handle (1 is in a tight spot)

BMW certainly don't and never will apparently... I've spoken to them recently as they have the UJ and check handles... I want black or similar as they kind of stick out now...
