England Help with front fogs/spot lamps.

Hi there i have just signed up hoping you guys will be able to help me. I have a 51 plate mini cooper and have just brought the front spot lamps that sit in your grille and had a few questions.

If wired up what actually switches them? Is there a separate switch or do they just come on with your main beam?

Also is the wiring already lurking around in the engine bay somewhere?

Any tips or guides would be very handy for wiring these up as well. I will also post a picture of my car as soon as I can.

Regards

James

Hello and welcome.

As far as I know, if wired up properly, they come on with the main beams. As for the wiring, you should have all the wiring with them, especially if they are mini ones. If they're wipac or similar you may have to specify the wiring kit when ordering. I was going to get some a while ago, but couldn't trust someone drilling into my Mini! Are you fitting yourself? Would be interested to know how easy you find it as I would prefer to go down the DIY route I think!

Hope that helps!

Hi there and welcome to MINI2

What lamps have you bought? Are they the genuine OEM items or aftermarket jobs? I have the OEM lamps on my car, and allthough I had the dealer fit them I can tell you that they do indeed come on with main beam automatically, so if you flash someone on the road, they light up too.

The wiring for mine goes under the bonnet soundproofing, and I presume is then wired into the main lighting wiring, allthough I'm not a technical person so I couldnt tell you. Im sure someone else will be allong soon to advise.

Here are some online guides to fitting the lamps.

Wiring:

http://minimeet.co.uk/instructions/Spot%20Lights.pdf

MotoringFile - Official BMW MINI fitting instructions for the lamps.

Looking forward to seeing some pictures of the car.

Regards,

James.

Thanks for the replies.

The lights are Wipac ones and I didnt get the wiring kit I have already fitted them actually but just need wiring in. Was really easy to fit just 3 screws on each one and you couldnt go wrong really. As long as you use fairly short screws you end up being no where near the bonnet or anything you can damage. Will try and take a few pictures for you.

Attached is a picture of my car with the lights fitted and it also gives you an idea of my car (isnt very clean in the picture though)

Again thanks for the replies answered a few questions for me

you need to buy yourself a wipac wiring kit, it basically wires up to the positive terminal on the battery and the main beam wire and is grounded thru the bracket the spots are screwed on with
