Offline | Fitting Grillie Lamps Hi guys. I'm looking at getting a pair of grille lights/driving lights (whatever they're called). I've heard the brackets are easy to mount, and so are the lamps, however apparently it's hard to actually wire them up. Anyone done this themselves? ![]() |

Offline | Fitted mine yesterday using the OEM brackets, 2 x Wipac spots and wiring harness from Mini Sport. Well worth the effort, now I'll be able to see when I'm whizzing round country lanes in the dark ![]() |

Offline | They only work on full beam. I spliced into the O/S headlamp wiring (yellow wire with blue tracer). The feed wire (blue with white tracer) on theMini Sport harness I received did require lengthening by about 2 metres to fit behind the bonnet insulation panel and reach the O/S headlamp full beam wire. The live wire connects to the + terminal on the battery, the earth lead I connected to the negative ground bolt next to the N/S bonnet hinge. Re-coding of the lights is not necessary as their is a built in relay and in-line fuse. If you're not used to doing this kind of work I'd give yourself a good couple of hours. or get someone who knows what to do to lend you a hand. Mine took longer than i'd anticipated as I had to cut slots in the Aero Grille. Not sure if the brackets fit through a standard one without need for cutting. Also be very careful when drilling the upper bracket holes that you don't go hitting the underside of the outer bonnet skin or you'll be well miffed if you have to fork out for a bonnet repair and paint job!! Best to use a battery powered drill on slow speed, small pilot hole first then followed by 2.5mm drill bit. I wouldn't trust the rivets supplied, as they're not really long enough - buy some 12mm in length for the two lower holes and use self-tapping screws for the single upper holes where you'll also need to fit the seperate earth wires to. Hope this helps and makes sense. |
