Sadly I have not even one mechanical bone in my body, and could never manage to fit the rack myself - what is worse (great) I have a mini convertable and so this is the only rack on the market I can get.

When you got your quote for fitting, and given your experience of fitting it yourself, what jobs would you recommend that could be DIY and maybe shave an hour or two off the time needed in the garage?

If you think you can put in the electrics in around half an hour, how much do you think they were "adding on" to the needed time to fit?

Do you think I should ask to sit and watch to make sure it really takes that length of time to fit??

Hi Celf,

The half hour quoted was purely just to feed a wire through the bulkhead, not to fit the whole electrics kit. The book time of 5 hours for the job is about right (i can't see anyone doing it any quicker!!! For me it's just paying up to £100/hour in the first place.

My advise would be to get quotes from non-dealer mini specialists and try and get the hourly rate down. After that there's not much prep work you can do yourself without fully commiting to the job.
