Changing the spotlight/driving light bulbs to white

hi guys,

fairly new to the forum (only just picked up my cooper s yesterday) i bought it from a fellow mini2 forum member (futureal33). anyway...

my previous car was a tt roadster which also had xenon lights, what i found was the xenons looked nice and white but the rest of the lights (driving lights etc) were still the old 'mucky' yellow colour that standard bulbs are. Anyway i got those replaced on the TT for leds so that all the bulbs matched the xenon white colour.

so...

with the mini how easy is it for me to do the same, so i can change the lights at the bottom (the side lights is it?) so they are white instead of yellow. please view this image to see what i mean...

see how the bottom lights are like a yellow. has anyone changed these to white? if so how so?

I got some lovely LED halo sidelights for Christmas, which are a lovely blue white, and some ultra white headlight bulbs too - all these are from Lohen.

Not sure about fogs or main beam bulbs, but sure someone else will advise you shortly

foglights don't really matter because they are very rarely used, so i would'nt bother wasting cash there. As for sidelights, well just change to LED bulbs as you did before, try either ebay or newministuff, the lights match up nice when LED.

As for Spotlights, when i get mine back i will be refitiing ultr bright bulbs to them to give the whiter light. Mine are off with a mate who is painting them black as we speak. Took longer than expected as i needed to get the spotlights shot blasted to clear off the silly chrome before painting. i

sounds good, has anyone got any photos?

i think im getting mixed up with side lights and spot lights. the car doesnt have any additional spotlights like the ones you add aftermarket. its just those ones that are at the bottom (please view the photo to see what i mean) i think they maybe sidelights?

i know when i got the ones for the tt i had to try tonnes of different ones before getting a colour match. plus some of the cheaper ones kept blowing every couple of weeks.

any recommendations?

Probably worth giving Mikey a call at newministuff for options and advice!

On a complete different subject, what made you change your TT Roadster? Ive heard varied reports from people on them. I just bought another MINI instead of the TT roadster

Unfortunatley never got around test driving one of them

Oh and about the light setup, after two MINIs, i see them as:

Headlamps - Yours seem to be pre-face lift Xenon Lamps
Sidelights (They are the larger sidelights underneath) - These are easy to replace. They have a few screws under and above the housing, you can remove the whole housing and replace bulbs e.t.c.
Under that are your Foglamps - I have never changed or touched these.
Additional Spotlamps are the Spotlamps on the Grille and can be added after but cost about £200+

If you want the white colour of your Xenons then you need the Halo Sidelights. They provide an angel halo look from white LEDs. you can buy these from ebay or mikey as above. They can easily be changed, but some discussion on whether it would pass an MOT with them on

Hope that helps!

Side lights can be changed to LEDS as a straight 2 minute swap. The fog lights im not 100% about but I could have sworn mine are very white already. Are there more than one version of the fog lights? Maybe the facelift models have part Xenon bulbs instead?

I needed something with back seats, i was tempted to get a tt coupe but decided to have a change. i loved the TT and was gutted to sell it. i like the mini but if im honest in terms of performance its not a patch on the tt. my expectations were high for the mini and perhaps a bit too high, they feel a little bit flat in comparrison (perhaps its the turbo i dunno?). my tt was a 225bhp (with a remap too) and off the mark was like lightning.

dont get me wrong, i am really happy with the mini and i think its just as querky as the tt (the interior styling etc) and it is much more practical than a 2 seater roadster.

I tried a few sets of LEDs from ebay - all were rubbish and were either the same colour as the standard or went a blueish colour after a few seconds.

Got some from here in end:

NewMINIStuff.com

They match my Xenons the closest and are about the right brightness

Is the easiest thing to do - takes 10 seconds per side.

Open bonnet, twist holder for bulb 90 degrees, take holder out, pull bulb out, insert new one, put holder back, twist 90 degrees the other way - jobs a good un

I recently changed the 2 orange bulbs in the lights that are situated in the front bumper of my r56 cooper s with halo (white) bulbs; however since doing this i get a warning light on the rev counter display which looks like a light bulb every time i start the car now; can anyone advise on how to get rid of this warning light as its beginning to bug me!
