Decal application help needed!

Hi there averyone,

I have just purchased some side strips for my MCS and would like some tips on how to put them on without getting bubbles trapped under.

I have heard than you need to use soap, but if thats true how much do i need to use and do i simply plaster the soap onto the car and then stick the decal on?

Help on this topic would be greatly apprieciated!

Alex

Alex - don't use SOAP !!!!!!

Just use warm water - both on the bodywork and onto the back (sticky side) of the decal.

This then creates a barrier which gives you time to get the position of the decal in the correct place. Once you are happy gently squeegee out the excess water from the centre outwards.

Any bubbles left will be moisture and therefore will evapourate - but you can pop them with a pin.

But take your time

Hope this helps.

Phil

Thanks for that matey,

Will i need to hold it into position with masking tape or something or will it just hold itself on naturally?

Also when i pop the bubbles left with a pin, should i do that whilst it is still warm so the water evaporates batter?

2" masking tape for hinge, or as a line to work from, but tape can twist and
film can stretch so be carefull,
do not rub down fully until your happy with position
if inside beware of dust
also if you can get hold of one use a felt pad, or use a microfibre cloth around your plastic applicator, hard edges and too much pressure are not good ideas for your initial rubdown

we use magnets on long graphics - becomes a third pair of hands !! but tape into position if need be.

and as alski says beware of dust and or grit as if it gets under the decal it will stand out like a sore thumb !!!

Take your time.

Well the decals have been put on and im very happy with them, although im not totally satisfied with it yet as the wheels are not black!!! But come next week the wheels will be black as i have got the car booked in on tuesday for the wheels to be sprayed. So once its been done i will be alot happier and there will be a few pics posted up of the car.

Here are a few of the car today. let me know what you guys think.

Looks really smart Personally I think you did the wise thing getting a pro to put the decals on - even though Phil gave some excellent advice.

Thanks guys, i am very pleased with it. its strange though coz the more i look t it the more i like it, but i am looking forward to having the wheels done as they are going to bring all the exterior mods together i think..... but your right it does need a wash and a pollish as they cleaned the area where the vinal was going with white spirit!!
