What's the proper name for that black plastic lip...?

... the one underneath (just aft of the bumper and forward of the engine) that catches first when you don't have enough ground clearance?

I need to order a new one. TIA.

P.S. Does it provide any other function that simply protecting the engine.

I'd just go in and order 'the annoying piece of black plastic under the front bumper that catches and scrapes on speed bumps'

On the GP they have a really technical name - Pressure lip seal

RealOEM.COM * BMW R53 Cooper S JCW GP FRONT BUMPER MOUNTING PARTS

What model and year is your car - you can then look it up on Real OEM and get the part number
