| MINI2 Master | Black -- solid or metallic? I'm considering getting a black MINI One early next year. I was wondering whether people thought that it was worth getting the metallic black rather than the standard. Will the standard paint still look good in a few years' time? I'm not going all out on options, so bear that mind before writing "yeah, it's only £250, go for it". The only really important option to me is air conditioning. After a few hot spells, I made myself swear that my next car would have air-con, even if I'm buying the car in the middle of winter. |

Offline | Resale value Like the man said - it's subjective, go and see both. Try and see complete cars in solid black and Cosmos black (in daylight). If you can afford it, go for metallic - it will add value come resale time. ![]() ANTBLACKMINIONEANDBRGMiniCooper. |

Offline | Comment... First I must admit that black is not my favorite color because it is next to impossible to keep looking pristine. Oldnell, if you don't mind having to put up with the extra human effort of keeping it shiny; go for the standard black. Metallic black will in a way hide dirt that collect over the paint, however, the metallic also makes the car appear dusty, IMHO. Nothing quite beats the sheen of a well polished/waxed "classic black"! ![]() 2005 Mercedes Benz C55 AMG 2006 BMW Z4 M-Coupe - Premium Pkg. 2007 Honda Fit - Sports Pkg. 2005 V-Star 1100 Custom 2007 Honda 250 Reflex |

| MINI2 Master | Thanks for your replies everyone. I remember seeing an all-black MINI One a while back and it looked really cute, so I thought it would suit me. ![]() As for other alternatives, these are my thoughts on the various options: Yellow -- looks stunning under the dealers' lights, but out on the road it's a bit too wishy washy. It should have been a bit more yolky in my opinion. Silver -- there are far too many silver cars on the road. When silver cars first became popular it was realy cool. Now it's just as common as red. Red -- looks really good on the MINI, but I need something different. My current dead Fiesta is Red. Silk Green -- ummmm, I know some people like it, but ... how can I put this ... YUK! BRG -- quite nice. Indi Blue -- Also quite a nice colour. I haven't seen many about, so it would seem to be a fairly unpopular choice. |

| Nice TTs......... | Unfortunately, in my experience, you need a bright day to see the difference in Cosmos Black as opposed to Solid Black, and they are scarce enough in this part of the world ! I honestly don't believe that Metallic Black hides dust or dirt any better than Solid Black, black is a pain to keep clean, period ! Though it does look great when clean ! ![]() ![]() Global Moderator |

| MINI2 Master | Thanks for your comments. That's saved me £250 anyway. If you were buying your MINI again, would you still choose black? My next choice would be the Indi Blue, but blue cars don't seem to be popular so that might affect my resale value. Having said that, it's anyone's guess what will be popular when I come to sell. |

| Nice TTs......... | oldnell, I do like black, I think its classy, though high-maintenance...... Yes, I would buy it again, its not that common on MINIs in general, and I think the contrast with the chrome accents is very nice, I'd highly recommend it ! ![]() ![]() Global Moderator |

Offline | Black I had a big discussion with my family before we put the order in. We considered all colours available. Metallic black was the only one we could agree on. I recently looked back on all the cars I've owned in 28 years of motoring and there are more black ones than any other colour, (including some black Minis). It does show the dirt more than most (except maybe white), but I don't mind cleaning my cars quite often, as I like them to look good whatever the colour. Metallic black looks particularly good when wet, in the rain, after a car wash etc. Ours is going to be Cosmos black, as I like metallic paint better than any solid colour. We've got black leather (with red trim), and a black roof (with sunroof). I also intend to tint the side windows, as this was not an option when we ordered. I hope it won't be "too black". My second choice would be silver (boring, but popular and easy to resale). Red and yellow I'd stay clear of (must be my age!!!) BRG is classic, but not for me. Silk green is yuck! Indi blue should be reserved for Rover 25s and Corsas. You never know, there may be other choices by the time you come to order - keep checking with your local MINI dealer. Good luck with your choice - and I hope you have fun when you get your MINI. ANT ![]() ANTBLACKMINIONEANDBRGMiniCooper. |

Offline | Oldnell - black will show every scratch, and beleive me you will inflict many when you wash the car, no matter how careful you are. Solid black is softer because with metalic you get a clear lacquer coat. On the +'ve side, due to its relative softness, you can easily polish out small scratches with solid. I love black, but still got silver ![]() |

Offline | Go for Cosmos Black ![]() It looks cleaner for longer and besides with solid black when you look down the car you will see the ripples due to the finish of steel. This will be more noticible on all solid coloured cars but even more so on black ![]() MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime ![]() ![]() Unofficial MINI2.com bean counter |

Offline | I liked the non-metallic black (jet black?)a lot than the metallic (cosmo) black. First time I went to go look at MINI's I saw a Cosmoo black MINI and I asked the dealer if that was blue or black. It was a very sunny day and it looked sort of like a faded black (hence the bluish look). The Jet black was BLACK. Now some may prefer the look of the Cosmo black as it wasn't quite as dark. I wouldn't mind a Jet Black MCS with contrasting white, probabley my next car. ![]() |

Offline | Re: Black -- solid or metallic? Save you £250 and put it towards summat like the extra for Climate control. As someone already said Cosmos looks dusty. I was getting cosmos originally until I saw them nexyt to each other. Ipaid to have mine paint lazed aswell To improove the shine of the black paint. That was only £50 but its not available at all dealers. ![]() |
