Unhappy Help... Cooper S bonnett on Cooper... recommended?

If anyone can help me a.s.a.p, i would be very grateful -

Having recently banged my poor Mini Cooper into a car, i am in need of replacing the bonnet and front bumper.

But, having found out the price for a Cooper S bonnet is same as Cooper bonnet, i would like to upgrade to enchance the looks of my car.

All was ok, and was told that it could be fitted with no problems!

Now they say the extra air being fed in engine could cool parts of the engine down that should not be, and make take in air that should be fed through radiator.... is this true? as many modified cars run well fine with their bonnet scoops and air vents.

Please give me any relervant feedback!

Thanks

Lee

Thinking about it, the cooper s scoop will just feed lots of air onto the engine cover... not sure how that will affect air flow... if you don't have an induction kit, it's not going to help at all...

Unhappy MCS Bonnet on Cooper! Urgent!

Hi Guys / Girls,

Need more help!

As mentioned in last thread i have damaged my bonnet and front bumper (both need replacing)

Is there anything i should know about putting a MCS bonnet on instead of standard cooper bonnet?

I was told that having an extra intake on the bonnet may attract the air that should be being fed through the radiator, which may cause over heating as less air is getting to radiator.

This is a theory...is it true!

Would it fit ok? Is it simpe to fir the chrome grill on new MCS bonnet (there is a pic of a MCS whith crome grill).

Any information you could give me would be great aswell as recommendations and concerns , as i need to book car in later to get repaired and need to know which part to order.

Many Thanks

Lee

Absolutely Not true - why do race cars run with propped bonnets!? - The extra air across the engine will more than compensate + the additional air is just that air that would have been going over the roof not into the rad + the air intake area on the bumpers grill is larger......

All in all you should be more worried about it running cool than hot

Cheers R,

Anyone else have any concerns about the bonnet change over - ie fitting it, replacing the grille with my chrome grill (is it simple?)

Another thing i was told was that the bonnet may not fasten to the cooper bumper properley - again this is not certain... anyone have any answers as it would be a problem if the bonnet was tol fly up when driving.

Cheers

My thoughts on this:

If the aerokit fits on both the cooper/one and cooper s, then surely there shouldn't be a problem

I'd imagine it uses the same latchings etc to save cost

Those MINI ( Factory/Sales ) Guys seem NOT TO WANT ANYONE swaping parts from one line to the other...

People have swapped grill pieces and other parts but MINI ( when asked ) holds the company line that " You can't put S parts on A Copper!" Bunch a Whiners !

One reason might be that they don't want people comming in asking for the MOD they saw on the street the other day.
I might lead to confusion with the product and brand differentiation.

One point worth considering,,,,

will it increase the drag factor of the smooth cooper shape and therefore reduce performance and increase fuel consumption????

worth bearing in mind.

I'd probably be in the minority here in saying that fitting a Cooper S bonnet to a Cooper would not enhance the looks of the car.

Am I the only one here who finds the bonnet scoop unattractive?

I don't know if MINI will sell you one.

There was a thread a month or so ago about people fitting the chrome gas flap from the S to their Coopers and Ones. BMW started tightening down on the practice to maintain the exclusivity of the S. Sort of like how they won't sell you an "M" badge for your 3-series unless you have the correct VIN.

Guess you won't know until you try - but make sure you can get all the parts (bonnet, plastic hood scoop, heat & noise shield, rubber gaskets, etc.) before you pay for any one of them.

The Cooper S is actually longer then the standard Cooper, (at least it is in North American spec), and may have slightly different bonnet mounting points for the latches. I think by fitting an S bonnet to a Cooper you may end up with a MINI with an overbite (the bonnet may extend too far over the bumper).

The image below shows Cooper dimensions in white and S dimensions in orange (but only a standard Cooper is shown in outline form). (from the MINIUSA.com site)

MCS bonnet on Cooper posted by whittie

OK guys I'm confused - can we have a census.....

Will the Cooper S bonnet fit on a straight Cooper?
Will it fit the front valance and lock down OK?
Will the higher level airflow through the S scoop have detramental affect on the radiators airflow?

I really could do with an overall feeling guys before authorising a straight repair of mods to my sons car (whittie)

Just in case you guys have nothing else better to do -
(1) has anyone fitted a clear lights kit themselves
(2) anyone fitted the aero side skirts
(3) anyone know where to get aftermarket spots other than the dealers who now want £360 to supply and fit?
(4) do the dark tinted windows affect visibility?
(5) how many of you think i'm a pain in the @@@@ (sorry I am a Volvo driver!!!)

*LMAO*

The Chassis are identical, the reason the Cooper S is longer is due to the front and rear bumpers being more sport or aero dynamic. The front "spliter" on the S sticks out more than the Coopers. Will try get a picture.

I never realized the 'chin' on the S sticks out further than the bumper does, but the pictures helped. Thanks.

Yeah what he said!

I agree the scoop on an S looks unattractive. I have an S on order. Does anybody know if I'll have problems fitting a Cooper bonnet to my S? Do you know if I Cooper bonnet in Electric Blue, or will it be easier to get the rest of my S sprayed to a Cooper colour?

Seriously, the scoop will let muck into your engine compartment.

There is a seal between the inside of the S bonnet and the intercooler, and there's a different seal between the inside of the bonnet and the Cooper radiator surround. It's there for a reason, else it wouldn't be there at all (you see what I'm saying?

Do you want water in your high tension electrics? Even if you blocked off the scoop so you didn't have a direct channel for rain to get on to the top or the plastic rocker cover and into your two coils and four HT leads, you'd still have a gap because of the different internal shape/size of the two bonnets.

Coopers look beautiful, S's look aggressive. If you want an aggressive Cooper, think about some stripes and/or spotlights.
