Red Brake Calipers!!!!!

I finally completed it today, shiny Red Brake Calipers all the way round...

They look amazing (ecspecially as it took me about 3 hours to do...)

I think I'm forst too which always makes it a bit more fun, add a great new dimension to the power of my MCS...

sorry about poor photos had to make them small enough to get them on here...

They look great

Did you take them off to paint or leave them on. I have been debating doing this for a while, but didn't want to have to take them off.

Unfortunatley had to take all of the wheels off and quite a job it was too... Had to get a jack and a wrench, blah blah blah... Though was a good opportunity to clean the wheels properly, they look like new too....

I bought a special kit by Foliatec and it is specifically for painitng calipers, comes in loads of colours and simply applies on with a brush so there is no need to masking tape up the whole wheel arch, has left a really nice hard shinny finish too, but took ages to dry, though i did put the wheels back on about 15 mins after I had painted each caliper.

Ok, so you painted the calipers while they were still on the brake?

I painted my Calipers when I got my new Cooper

I just painted them silver(yes I know they are already silver)

My last Cooper calipers looked YUK after just one salty winter.I also painted the grey part of the brake disc

jamiesim is that a dent on your 'A'panel or just a trick of the light????????

This is going to sound stupid. But how do you paint the calipers. Do they have to be removed from the car entirely. Wouldn't this be time consuming draining the brake fluid. What type of paint is used? Would it be a high temperature paint? and last does it cost alot?

Yes its a high temperature paint. Its designed for only painting calipers.

No I think they cost about £25.

You just get a small hard brush , and if i'am right you get the paint and a thickerner and mix the two together, then carefully paint it on.

Painted mine red last month with the kit from Eastwood. Did two coats on everything, including the ABS stuff on the inside, and had at least enough paint to do another MINI. Just threw the excess away since it had to be used within a few hours.

Suggest getting additional small art brushes to really do a nice job, and getting together with another MINI owner to paint both at the same time from the a same kit.

....You could always just get red aftermarket brakes... That way #1 They'll be red (duh) #2 You'll have a lot of extra stopping power and #3) You'll get a lot less of that oh-so-annoying brake dust that gets everywhere within the first day after washing a car. I suppose it's a bit expensive, at least for me But if anybody else wanted to buy me a set, I'd paint your set red for free!!

Whatever.

unfortunately yes it is a dent, some lazy ******* obviously decided to make contact whilst coming out of a parking space!!!! arghhhhhhhh drives me mad but nobody else seems to notice it... Am going to try and get it removed by Dentwizard or someone like that!!!

I used the FOLIATEC kit to paint them... only about £15... It is specially made for calipers and is heat resistant... will be giving them a second coat in a couple of weeks...

I saw my first set of red calipars on a CR w/ white 17's this weekend. The white wheels really made the red calipers stand out. The look almost justifys putting up with the brake dust.

Mmmmm... sounds seriously tempting. A few quick questions:

1. Where do you get the Foliatec paint - just places like Halfords?
2. As you're applying a second coat, I'm guessing this isn't the stuff that goes off, right?
3. Does it void your warranty?
4. Does it need to be applied to brand new calipers?

Cheers,

Mal.

painting Calipers will not void your warranty. And You can paint them at any time, just clean them off first

The red calipers I have seen look great. But I have been thinking about painting mine yellow. Has anyone seen yellow calipers on a MINI? I have a CR/B MCS coming in the next couple weeks and am swapping out the brake pads with Greenstuff pads soon after I get it. I thought I would take the opportunity to paint the calipers at the same time. The yellow calipers I have seen on red cars looked good to me, I am just not sure about it on the MINI. Any thoughts?

Michael
