Do driving lights protrude beyond the bumper?

I've never seen an installation in person, nor a photo from bumper level looking across the front of the car.

What I have seen has me wondering- are the lights vulnerable to damage by someone parallel parking in front of you, backing up and hitting the lights before the bumper?

Comments on the factory lights, after market installations, and light bars welcome.

Thanks

Tom F.

Don't think you should be so worried about the driving lights. I think you should be worried about the SUV parking in front of you with the Class III trailer hitch on the back, coming dangerously close to going through your grill and radiator. IF I see a trailer hitch on a vehicle that I might park behind, I move on fast. Find somewhere else to park.

That would be a definite YES! argh.

My first 'dent' was having one of the driving lights smashed by a parallel parker. I'm going to replace it and count it as a lesson learned: I should have kept the caps on. If it happens again, I may have the lights removed, since they only work on hi-beams anyway.

BIG driving lights

Hi!

Does anyone know of larger diameter driving lights that are "thin" in depth? I would like to put a LOT of light out there in front.

I ordered PIAA driving lamps from imotorgear.com: they are a lot cheaper than the factory ones: $270 (what is that, about £170?) and getting my mechanic to install them for me.

If you want to get OEM rally lights, go here:
http://www.minicooperparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1_27&products_id=148
They are pretty cheap for factory lights, however one of the salewomen told me they only fit on the European MINIs. I didn't really understand that...

If you are worried about them getting smooshed, I came across these nudge bars...

Hope that helps!
