Talking Welcome to the Darkside - Black + Black + Black MCS

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to share my black-out project on my black MCS. So far, I've done the following: aero grille, black side grilles w/blue S, Madness tinted tail lights, gunmetal OZ Superleggeras, medium tint, and black MCS gas cap!.

Near future mods will include black pinstripping to cover chrome surround under the windows, and shaved door handles (ala hot rod style)

Are you going to fill the door pockets?
Me I'd rather see black chrome door handles.

Again. Your car is sweet.

Thanks Obehave! Great tips too!

Black calipers and hubs - great idea. I was thinking on the calipers anyway, to paint them blue... but wasn't sure. What do you think? I thought it would accent the blue interior and the blue "s" nicely, but then again I'm not too sure of blue calipers (seems a bit toyish)? My other choice was black, so we're on the same wavelength.

Battery skid pan - Is this noticeable from behind? I can't recall it being visible (but then again I was distracted by those ugly U-clamps that the Magnaflow exhaust came with ).

What did you mean by door pockets?

Good idea on the black chrome door handles. Do you know if it's easy to chrome over chrome? My wife is insisting on shaved door handles, but damn it's costly at $2500 a pair for just the body work alone (less solenoids, door poppers, and installation of these parts). Black chrome sounds like a more financially reasonable alternative.

Where did you get these from or did you create them?

Just my opinion, but I think your car looks GREAT WITH the chrome under the windows. Gives the car definition that I think might be lost without it.

Also, de-chroming is a bit 1990's, isn't it? Car looks great as is, one of a kind. Well done!.... don't take it toooooo far.

Only my opinion, ignore if you disagree....

Thanks for the compliments Tony. You've got an interesting point there.... something to consider.

I'm doing nearly the same to my Cooper (except for the white top).

Have you considered getting a new set of badges, respraying the badges black, and place a new blue MINI or S decal in?

You're talking about the rear badges right? Well, actually I shaved those off within the first month of owning the car, and don't plan to put them back on. As long as badges don't leave behind unsightly guidepin holes, I usually just take them off.

6f7, please post pics of your car when your done! Would love the company of another blacked out Cooper!

Albert I'm disapointed in you...

or maybe very proud of you...

I can't decide

I have tried to annoy you with my funeral references - despite the fact that privately I love the idea of a 'dark side' MINI

Please acknowledge that my jibes havn't been in vain and are correctly receoved

yours

BRGreenie!

LOL.... you know, I didn't respond b/c I couldn't really put two and two together. I was hoping someone else would respond to your comments, so as to clue me in on the whole hearse thing! I didn't want to appear retarded by asking you what you meant! hahahaha

And then in your last post, you included the word "funeral" and FINALLY the light came on!

Anyway, my wife LOVES hearses, so I guess it shouldn't surprise me that she loves the way the mini looks now!

Sorry. I was trying to incorporate some smilies from the s2ki.com board, but I guess it didn't work properly.

Thank goodness for that!

Albert

Best of luck with it too!

ps if your missus loves hearses I hope you've seen the classic film - 'Harold and Maude' from which the still of the E-Type ( in US read XKE ) hearse comes from.

Great quote from Maude ( a little old lady in her 70's );

Harold - 'Have you driven a motorcycle before?'

Maude - 'No but you should always go for the new experience!!!'

Take care
