roof decals how much?

I saw a DS/W MINI like mine a few days ago with a chekered roof and I liked it a lot!

I'm thinking of buying the kit from Idle Gear and do it myself but can somebody tell me how much do dealers charge to retrofit a chekered roof?

Thanks for your responses

dealers in the UK charge around £100. A roof decal is always 'retro fit' as the factory doesn't fit it, the dealer does. I just ordered the check roof kit from Idle Gear & it's £39 + shipping.

Yeah the Idlegear large check one (i.e. mine) is an exact replica of the BMW version..

And it's half the price!

the MINI has gone...

I was quoted US$165 for installation only. So I'm opting to get the idle gear one too. Much cheaper and I can do the installation myself...hopefully. And the shipping price is good considering it will be coming from the UK.

And is the installation fairly easy?

The "EASY FIT" large cheq roof decal, is know £39 + shipping.

It is now supplied in a differant way. I have used the same methoid as when rover supplied the classic mini decal.

You get a template, and the vinyl squares.

Place the template onto the roof, hold down with masking tape.
Then peel off the squares 1 by 1, and place in the rececess of the template.
You then build up the decal, like a jigsaw.

You will get a text instructions and fitting diagrames.

This method has cut fitting time by at least half.

If you can tie your own shoe laces, you can fit this kit.

cheers Kev idlegear

Is there a kit that can be fitted to a sunroof, or would I need to use my initiative cutting up one of the standard kits?

The kit will fit a sun roof vehicle, but as the vinyl is soild, you won`t beable to see through the squares.

You would just fit as normal, then using a scaple blade (ask and I`ll "give you one") just slice through the squares on the sunroof, enabling you to open the roof. The decals will not stick to the rubber seals.

If you are looking for a perforated sunroof version we have that. Choose any two colors for your checks and pick between the traditional "Flat" version or our 3D version. This will work on any color roof also. matt@cooperflags.com

I did the same as WDFOTO, It cost me about 50 Australian dollars ($25US) however it took me four hours. You'd be suprised how easy it is.

Just go to a vinyl cutter and have them cut you 24 squares at 230mm. You only need 20 but get four for spares just in case you stuff a couple up.

Get a spray bottle with a few drops of dishwashing liquid and fill the rest with water. Completely clean the area and carefully stick them on. Also, use a small window squeege to squeege excess water out from under the decals once you slide them into place.

Just PM me if you need more info.

PS Here's my MINI. I actually used liquid 3M yellow checks and added the triple racing stripes on the bonnet and down the back.

can someone tell me the width of their bonnet stripes on the hood.
including the penstriping on the edge. Some I have purchased were 4" but it seems the OEM ones are around 5"
is this the case?
thanks

Thumbs up

Got my EASY fit kit within 2 days from IdleGear and fitted it Saturday. Took me 3 hours to fit in total including washing the car and admiring it afterwards I'll post a pic as soon as weather permits. Straight forward to fit and looks great, well chuffed at the price as well saved myself nearly £100
