| My mini is my casket | I have had my car tinted now for about 4 weeks, and noticed that now (that the sun is out more) the tint is showing a bad haze early and late in the day when the sun is lower and cutting right in. It makes my windows look really hazed like they are dirty and it reall makes it hard to see out. Have any of you noticed this at all with your tint job? Here is the kicker. I have a Toyota Matrix also, and I had the SAME problem!!!! took it back to the guy and he redid it. I think the bottom line is, the low end Lumar film that I asked for, ...sucks. and what he replaced it with has got to be the better sun blocker type, which cost more, but, i think solved my problem on my Matrix. Man im so ticked. Its hard to get film off the back windows ![]() sorry I just had to vent ![]() |

Offline | Romhog Please advise!!! I'm thinking about 'Getting Tinted' in THE NEXT FEW DAYS... The place I'm considering using - Gatwick Auto Shades (UK) uses Sol Llumar film. I think their price is around £200 all in... Can you (or any other member) point out which Llumar film to avoid as I don't like the sound of your post so close to me doing the deed as you might say. I'm thinking about going for a steel grey film if that helps?? The look is ... well ... steel grey (Light - think this will go well with the body colour). Any advice / help - Greatly appreciated!! Cheers MOD ------- DS/DS Cooper S |

| My mini is my casket | well, with the "tint" that is built in to the window, it leaves a sort of green tint. All factory windows have about 5-8% tint built in in most new cars. So its a complicated thing. I hope that the combo of the film that I got and this built in tint, is causing the problem. I would say as long as it states that it has sun blocker (its like an aluminum film) you should be good. I'm waiting for this dude to call me back, so I can find out if the better stuff is what he got me. I'll try to get the name of it from him |

Offline | was the problem with all the windows or just the ones that can be rolled down. Standard thing with tinting windows is that you do not roll them down for 3 days after getting the tint. by rolling them down before they dry can cause a haze patteren in then windows. If its in all the windows then its the film. 02 MCS DS/W (Totaled November 02 on Fall Folage Run) 03 MCS DS/W (See my MINI Profie for extensive list of mods) |

| My mini is my casket | Ok, I called Llumar yesterday, and he thinks its a bad roll of film. I just don't believe it .I had my Toyota done by the same guy about 3 months ago. So how can it be the same roll. no way. He re-did the tint job on my matrix. He even addmitted that it was bad. Now its like that again on my Mini. Im about to just have the darn stuff taken off, and be done with it. Im getting old and grumpy well, this is my 5th car with tint. I don't know what the problem is. |

Offline | All I can suggest is consider / get a quote from Pentagon. I think they are more expensive than Gatwick but their facilities and the results are perfect, IMO. If it's good enough for Beckham and Blair.. http://pentagonglasstech.com/ |

Offline | Pav Thanks for the info... Have just got off the phone to a Guy from Pentagon, very informative, costs a bit more as expected... From my conversation I have been left feeling safe in the knowledge that these guys are pros. Might get it done on Friday at an estimated cost of £330 +VAT or I could go for the BSA standard SupaGlass (manufactured to withstand a prolonged attack on the glass for up to six seconds - Bullet & bomb shatterproof!!) £495 -ouch! Now to decide what I'm going for... Cheers Mark |

Offline | I considered the SupaGlass, but in the end decided it is unlkely I will suffer attack by bullet or brick. The standard stuff looks no different and matches the BMW tint perfectly, if you have that? I'm guessing not because of your quote, I paid £200 for the doors and rear. |

Offline | I don't see how it could -- you're covering the window from the inside; the antenna is picking up the signal from the outside. I suppose if there is enough metal in the film, it could cause the antenna to become unidirectional though. |

Offline | Sorry I am kind of new to the world of tinting so this might be a dumb question But I wonder: why is it THAT expensive to do the tinting? I mean.. it's just a job of sticking the film onto the window right? Or is it that the film itself that is expensive? I was quoted by a friend's friend to do the tinting and it's only 150 CAD, which is just about 100 EURO. Or.. are you guys getting the tinting done in a different way? |

Offline | I have a Llumar tint that cost all of $115 and love it. The only odd thing is a rainbow effect when using polarised sunglasses while the sun is low on the horizon - pretty cool really! 2007 DS/W MCS LSD, sport suspension, Enkei RPM2 wheels 2002 EB/W MCS Sport package, Rogue intake, Borla exhaust, 15% pulley & Madness sway bar |

Offline | I have only had my LLumar tint, the "ATR" premium stuff, on for about 2 months. Looks great, no problems. The installer put the platinum film on the sunroof, and the interior is much cooler, and I don't use the screen anymore. The rest is a smoke/black color. Total cost for my Mini: $228.80. JCIP |

Offline | Onyx Tint by Madico I had my windows tinted about a month ago by a woman who does tints for some of the new car dealers here in the North Bay Area of California. I had no idea what to expect as far as a price, so I didn't blink when I was told $245 for the five windows. After I set it up with her, I heard a very wide range of prices from just over $100 up to a little over what I paid. She came highly recommended by a friend who has been a service writer for years in a few of the big dealerships in the area, so I went ahead with her. She did a great job, and the film really is invisible, with no haze or bubbles like I've seen on other tint jobs. I asked her what causes the variation in price among installers, and she said first that there is cheap film, which she said she won't use, and second, that she gives a warranty for the film, which was really a manufacturer's warranty. The quality is very good, but I wonder if the $100 version is that much worse. One thing I did do though was to leave the windows up for even more than the warranty sheet said to. She told me 3 days, the warranty said 5. I left them up for a week. Maybe that did it. There are a few shots in my gallery (a few of the Tamales Bay pictures) that show them off, but you can't really see the quality until you get up close.
