Offline | So long as the brake light's red when lit up, I don't think the law cares *what* colour it is the rest of the time. The hoo-hah about the colourless lenses is that in the UK, the rear of the car must have two red reflectors (the size, spacing and reflectiveness also has to be between certain given values, too). Keeping the standard rear light cluster lenses but swapping the brake light lense should be fine. Ordered my "S" August '01. Arrived July '02. EB with white roof, wheels and stripes, Chili pack, DSC and climate control. Hate those 17" runflats though. Can now be seen all over the West Midlands, as a blue blur passing everything at speed |

Offline | Not sure that you can order 'just a clear brake light'. I agree it would look good next to the white roof. Anybody know the part number of the Brake light only ????? - Red/White Cooper, Silver wheels, Climate Control, Chili Pack, heated mirrors, CD Boost, Alarm, Heated seats, Factory Tint Windows. Now gone (but not forgotten) |

Offline | Right, well seems like you guys have been having major serious conversations while I've been away!!! Had the lights fitted last saturday and they look amazing, my dealer had to give me the red reflectors but didn't enforce the fitting of them. I had planned to stick them to the mudflaps but not sure if that will satisfy legal requirements as they may be too low. The rear lights come as a set of three because my first set had one of the clusters cracked and they had to send the whole set back instead of being able to fit the high level only at that point. The lights cost £43 to fit at Rydale in Cardiff, cheap at half the price if you ask me!! Asw to this thing that viscount charles has mentioned, the lights still have white reflectors and if you ran into the back without noticing them then you must be completely stupid and shouldn't be driving on the road!!! Jon I have a full list of accessories (ones available and ones for the future) at home including part numbers etc so I will check the lighst as a set thing. Completely MINI/Mini Mad!!! |

Offline | Excellent! As the law states you must have *red* reflectors on the rear, and must *only* show white light when travelling in that direction, your car is now illegal in two ways! There's a song about this: it goes something like "I fought the law ..." Ordered my "S" August '01. Arrived July '02. EB with white roof, wheels and stripes, Chili pack, DSC and climate control. Hate those 17" runflats though. Can now be seen all over the West Midlands, as a blue blur passing everything at speed |

Offline | I paid for the lights when I bought the car but the fitting was seperate as I had to wait a month or so but it only cost £43 to fit them. As said before, I didn't have the reflectors fitted so I don't know how that would increase the fitting price. Jon Completely MINI/Mini Mad!!! |

| MINI2 Regular | No offence meant, folks, but I think the white rear lights look vile! Having said that, they do look marginally better than on the small Lexus or the new BMW Compact.... The thought of invalidating the insurance on a £10000+ car just for the sake of a couple of (albeit horrible) inset reflectors in the bumper would scare me to death. The lighting laws are designed to promote our safety - where is the sense in flouting them needlessly? It's a MINI hearse! ================== KAZ 5707 - Black One with white bonnet stripes |

Offline | By law your car in the uk has to have the red reflectors if your rears lights are clear even though the clears one do have reflectors in them, they still have to be red if that makes sense. PS,Perhaps your laws are different in Ireland. ![]() |

| MINI2 Global Moderator | I was told by a man at the petrol station that my car looked like it was going backwards.. Then he began to slate the new beetle saying it was just the same He did tell me he like the new mini though, I guess he was trying to say he wasn't keen on the clear lenses though Not that I care that much, I like them and thats all that matters ![]() the MINI has gone... |
