Offline | help!! aerial problem ok, need a QUICK solution. Just sheared off my aerial on the garage door-therefore no sound in car, and now i have to listen to every squeak and rattle in the car! Will have to order part and then drop headlining to fit, then buy another aerial. I need a shorter aerial anyway or the same will happen. Should i get a wing mounted aerial, bite the bullet and replace or get a stubby and if so from where? { FAST!!} cheers |

Offline | Did you take the entire antenna off, right down to the roof? That's a heck of a job if you did! (and a REALLY low garage door!) Most people I see who hit their antenna on something (mostly VW Jetta drivers who use automatic carwashes), just bend the antenna over. You can thread this portion out of the roof mounting and just thread in a new one. I believe the threading of an Audi TT antenna (short) fits the Mini threading. Offline | shear stupidity it's actually sheared through the thread level with the black rubber mounting. so i have no thread to replace anything with as its sheared. whatever happens i think i have to get a base unit that supplies the thread. |

Offline | The base has the internal threads -- you should be able to get the threaded stud out of it using something like an easy-out or similar. I've even had luck using just the tip of my finger to back the stud out before. Worse case, you'll have to drill and re-tap the threads which should be easy considering how soft the material is. I'm pretty sure the thread size is M5x.75. If you don't think you can do it, the dealership (or a local garage) should be able to. It would probably be cheaper than replacing the base, especially if the coax cable is permanently attached to it. There are quite a few different antennas that will fit too -- Audi TT, Honda S2000, VW, etc. I bought a Honda S2000 antenna, but didn't like how it looked -- the base of the antenna was a bit too large in diameter and looked funny IMO. I went with a VW replacement whip antenna from Fast Addiction. Here are some pictures of both the S2000 and the short whip antenna: S2000 Antenna: Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Pic 4 MHW Car Dynamics Antenna: Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Pic 4 There is also a "Perfect Fit" S2000 type antenna that has a smaller diameter base on it which should look better. Offline | I did the same to my aerial taz whilst jetwashing my mini i whacked the aerial with the wash brush and snap! I managed to fix mine i unscrewed the little snapped bit out of my base with my fingers.I drilled into my aerial & attached a screw with some 'locktight' then carefully grinded the head off it. Then i re-tapped my base to suit the new screw and screwed it in! hey presto Thats a cheap diy way of doing it anyway Tim ![]() [img]http://www.mini2.com/gallery/personal/aus-timpowers/sig_no_3.jpg[img] MCS,Chili pk,Tints,Eibachs,Aeroskirts,PIAA spots,Wunoff Exhaust system.
