Offline | Car looks great. How much did you pay (if you dont mind me asking). Few more questions, I am thinking of getting my EB/W tinted with really dark tint. What percentage tint did you get? What other types of tint options did the company offer? Did they tint all windows? Thanks and sorry for all the questions. GW |

Offline | M0D, your car looks superb. Glad you're happy with the result and Pentagon's work. GW, Pentagon do four variations of tint as I recall; Light Smoke 47% Smoke 35% Dark Smoke or 'Midnight' 18% Limousine... I paid £200 for the front side and rear screen, as I had the BMW panel van tint from the factory. They also offer Supaglass - a film that's up to ten times stronger than normal and capable of resisting attack by brick and bomb-blast! It's expensive though. Check their web site for more info. http://pentagonglasstech.com/ |

Offline | Thanks for the compliments! I couldn't agree with you more!! My car was originally due to be tinted more locally... THE LOCAL TINT SHOP: I was quoted a varied price... It started at £200 when I went in for a chat a few months ago, then when I phoned back to confirm the girl on the end of the line said £280, after I questioned the price variation I got a "oh go on then £250". Asked if the company had insurance that I could claim off - should my car encounter any damage whilst in their care... Response: "I dunno really... I spose we do have that sort of thing?..." > Also the idea of a lad from the workshop tharshing my S to see what he could get out of it on the way to dropping my car back to me at my workplace put me right off! (Not that I don't give my car a good little thrash now and again like it deserves) For the extra few ££'s I would rather my car was in good care. I could have had tints darker than boot polish if I wanted to at this local place by all means. But this probably would have meant being pulled over by the five'o' every other day and that would be the last thing I would want to put up with...(also don't know how you stand when coming to reselling the car, especially if through a dealer??) Instead, & thanks to advice from the MINI2 crew, I decided to go with Pentagon... PENTAGON: I didn't have factory tints, so all five windows were done. (Took about 3 hours from when I dropped off the car) I was quoted £330 for the tints on the phone but asked if there was 'anything they could do?'... when I turned up they let me have them for £300 which I was pretty pleased about. Worth asking all the same. (+ the VAT was about £350 all in) The Supaglass quote for all five windows was £495 + VAT (ouch!) Standard would suit me fine thanks!! GW > hope this helps somewhat & look forward to seeing your tints posted on here sometime soon!! ![]() |

| MINI2 Regular | Have ordered the factory tints... does it not include the rear window???? If I am right it cost you another £200 to get the rest of the windows tinted too... Thats my plan.. This car is going to lose me my license one day. I LOVE IT!!! Dark Silver/Black Cooper S Chilli Shiny Red Brake Calipers The biggest grin on the planet & the envy of all my friends! |

Offline | It includes the back 3 I believe. I wanted to get the factory rears because its tinted glass, not film, and ive heard that the film on the rears leave a white line around the black bits at the edge of the glass. Have you found this MOD? So you have 'smoke' tint which Pav said is 35%? Is this past the legal level for the fronts then? 2003 DS/DS Cooper S |

Offline | This isn't really a problem as long as you look after your windows. I have seen some tints which look extremely bad with this white line effect, a problem that all films will have sticking to the glass around the dot matrix 'black bits' on the windows. All you have to do is run your middle finger (not index) along the inside edge of the tint - over the dots, to eleminate the problem This is where coloured glass that has been tinted before install will always look better IMO - I might be wrong, but it's a shame BMW don't offer an option where they install fully tinted glass to all 5 windows... and within the legal limit. ---------- 'Smoke' lets in 35.5% of transmitted light and is the darkest that Pentagon Glass Tech will tint your windows for the front, for this reason I believe that is the legal limit... Smoke doesn't look that dark when side on but are tinted enough to look spankingly cool in the light of day- IMO Also as my eyesight is not 20/20 the last thing I would want is to impare my vision at night! If BMW did offer a legal 'all over tint' I would definitely go for this when I come to trade in my S for a better one (in a few years) Hope this helps you on your choice of tints if you haven't made up your mind already? I have contacted my insurance company to see how having the tints applied affect my policy and will post a follow up price check... Would'nt want to invalidate my insurance now would I...? |
