Talking Don't Scratch your Glass!

I was walking around my car and noticed the rear drivers side window had a minor scratch in it. How did I manage to scratch the glass I ask myself? Well I noticed it is not glass but Plexiglas of some kind. Knowing this I can rub out the scratch. The important thing is do not use WINDEX or any glass cleaner on it, or paper towel, these will yellow and scratch the Plexiglas over time. Just us soap and water and a soft cloth, there is also so stuff available for cleaning Plexiglas. I didn't see if this is in the manual, but if it is'nt it should be.

Uhhh, I don't have any plexiglas/plastic windows on my Mini. Are you talking about the piece that covers the rear quarter of the car, and curves around to the hatch? That's ordinary auto-glass (don't know if it's tempered or not). According to the MINI site, that curve is the tightest ever attempted on a production car.

No plexiglas, all auto-glass and I have been using Windex/paper towels since day one...mine have no visible scratches. Must be something else scratching your windows.

Trust not the heart of a man for whom old clothes, and the Mini, are not venerable!

The window is definitely glass. The inside of the passenger side rear window on my 2003 MCS was scratched in several places when I purchased it in March. The dealer replaced the window under warranty.

My window has scratches. I suspect it is from ice with road sand in it being scraped off. Still not pleased as no north american car has even given me this problem. Those in SoCal and NC likely don't see much winter road sand on icy windshields but those of us in the land of snow certainly do.

I don't know about plexiglass, all I know is that the windscreen and the rear window are by far the softest auto glass it's ever been my misfortune to own. The front screen is already more pitted than the glass on my '77 MGB (which has a 25 year, 59,000 mile head-start on my 9 month old, 8500 mile MCS), and the rear glass has some serious scratches, no doubt from winter cleaning. I know I haven't given it any excessively harsh treatment, and previous vehicles have given me winter ownership experience with GM, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Nissan, and Chysler glass, and none scratched anything like this. Kind of disappointing. The side glass is fine, but then it doesn't have to deal with the same issues the front/rear...

For UK readers: plexiglas = perspex

And I agree there is none of that in any of the MINI windows.
