Has anyone got any custom roof artwork done on their mini?
One of my friends is an artist for the 2000AD magazine (Judge Dredd, etc) and I was thinking of getting him to do a painting on the top of my Mini Cooper...

Very cool - but perhaps a tad over the top. Each to their own though. Who or what would you have? Judge Anderson or Durham Red would look pretty cool, but I wonder if 2000AD would have a copyright issue with it...

I'm not familiar with copy right laws in the UK, as I'm on the other side of the pond, but over here at least they can only really nick you if you are using it for some sort of profit making activity. So it should be okay to have it painted on the top of the car, but if he then tries to make money off of the car as a result of having the painting of their characters on it, then they can go after him.

I'd love to see pictures if you have it done. Some of the roof graphic places can also do roof stickers based on computer art work. Not as nice looking as a hand painted one, but certainly less time intensive and easier to get done.

If you have a written release from the artist then you are in the clear to re-produce a graphic for one time use. Most artists may want a small cut, but most (that I've delt with) are happy that someone would want to put their art on a car. They will not however allow the company that produces the graphic to reproduce the image without some sort of licence agreement.

We have done this for a couple MINI owners who have made arrangents with artists to have work digitaly reproduced into a roof graphic. This has always been a one time deal. If you have permission from the artist and want to persue this we have them means of turning your "wants" into reality. matt@cooperflags.com

How well can you reproduce grey scale pictures? I have a pice of art that would probably make a very nice roof graphic for a DS Cooper, but it's a pencil drawing. No color.

Well my friend is actually the artist so getting permission from him wouldnt be a problem... And I wouldnt necessarily get a 2000AD mag painting done... He's done alot of artwork thats just come from his own head rather than having a theme, so maybe get him to think of something...
I was thinking of maybe something like a cartoon character that had fallen through the roof of the car or something...

Grey sace is pretty easy - computers understand grey scale which is a sliding % of white added to black. More white = lighter grey. You can also match to the PMS which lists several levels of grey.
