Unhappy Help - peeling bonnet stripes

Only 5 days into owning my Mini, I have reliased that one of my nice white bonnet stripes has been ripped by a stone and chipped the paint underneath...:-(

Does anyone know how to touch up the paint and more importantly fix the stripe??

Yours hoping it does not rain so my car does not rust!!

You may be able to remove the existing stripe by applying some heat with a hair dryer - not heat gun! Or 3M makes a spray that will release the glue without damaging the paint. It's messy so mask off the rest of your hood or you'll be cleaning it for days. A local FastSigns type sign shop should be able to replace the stripe - worth having them price it anyway.

I have spoken to my local Mini/BMW dealer and they have quoted my £20 for the stripe and approx £40 to fit...

Take the damaged stripe off.

Repair the paintwork. Then get a pair fitted. I say a pair because then you will know they are a matched set. Some stripes are differant, shape and shade.(you`d be supprised of how many shades of white there are)

Or you can buy a pair from us for £15 + £4 postage.

Kev idlegear.

It`s a mini thing, you wouldn`t understand.

Same happened to me (although it didn't damage the paintwork) Got a local sign company to remove and replace stripe only to find the orignal to have discoloured so got the pair fitted for around 25gbp. Just buy some touch up paint (it will be covered by the stripe anyway)

Here's a trick I've used on a couple of motorcycles I've owned. Make sure the spot hasn't begun rusting, then dab a small amount of white paint into the divot to seal it from further weather damage. Now find a suitable vinyl sticker (Maybe Paddy Hopkirk's autograph, eh?) and apply it over the blivet. No one has to know the ding is there, and your baby picks up a bit of panache in the bargain! Total cost, usually less than a buck!

If your dealer installed the stripes, they are covered by the warranty. I'm not sure if this type of damage is covered, but it's worth looking into.

Flea: MINI Cooper, Chili Red w/white roof white 15" 7-hole wheels, Cold Weather package, black kaleido cloth sport seats w/black door bolsters, silver interior, white bonnet stripes, American flag roof graphic, driving lamps, MFSW

Just wanted to thank everyone for a good range of solutions... Spoke to Park Lane Mini where I bought the car and as expected the damage to the stripes is not covered.. I think I will start with the vinyl (cheap) options, if it does not look great I will tak eit back to the dealer for the £40-50 re-stripe!!
