Offline | Alternate driving lamp mounting All of the driving lamp mounts I have seen (factory mounts and after-market light bars) seem to mount to the bonnet. This makes for a fairly simple installation, but I am concerned (based on other threads I have read) that anything mounted to the bonnet is inherently unstable and subject to vibration/movement - especially with lamps that are larger than the factory lamps (Hella, Cibie, PIAA). It seems to me on cursory examination that it should not be too hard to make a lamp bar that mounted into the bumper assembly, more exactly the massive metal backing to the bumper. Such a bar might be shaped something like: Code:

Offline | looks Agreed, something large mounted to the front of the bumper would look awful. I was thinking of something more like a classic bumper mounted light bar on an Austin Healy or MG. Somehow attaching it to the top of the bumper/bumper support as far back as possible, maybe even connecting it behind the bumper and cantilevering forward to give bonnet clearance. It would clearly take some work to get the mounting stiff enough and still be light-weight in looks (I.e. No brush bar look). The width should be about equal to the cowl opening and the height designed so that the lamps should basically be mounted in the same position (more-or-les) as the factory lamps perl |

Offline | CurtP's on the right trail. Instead of your bar, I'd look at the possibility of mounting individual brackets. Either as he described or extending through slots cut in the bumper. Maybe a "T" style fabricated out of 1/4" (6mm) steel. Done right, you'd only have to cut 2 slots measuring about 2"x 3/8" in the bumper and you'd be able to mount Godzilla on them! ![]() -- '03 S B/W |
